John Russell Buffett Bruce Eugene 'Poppy' Goodwin Kevin Lively ******************************************************************************************************* John Russell Buffett Born in: Neil's Harbour, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: Long Point, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 25/11/2010 John Russell Buffett Long Point Dec. 9, 1929-Nov. 25, 2010 John Russell Buffett, 80, passed away peacefully on Thursday Nov. 25, 2010, at home, with his family by his side. Born in Neils Harbour, he was the son of the late Luke and Susan Buffett. He was a member of the Armed Forces and was employed as a carpenter at Cape Breton Highlands National Park for 25 years. Russell enjoyed lots of company and the door to his home was always open to friends for a game of cards. He is survived by his wife, Mary; daughter, Gretta (Rick Wambolt), St. Peter's; son, Brent (Irene), Sydney; stepson, Neil MacDonnell, Dartmouth; stepdaughter, Mary MacAskill, Dominion; chosen son, Scott Burton and three chosen granddaughters, Candace, Shandelle and Courtney; sister, Burtha Battiste, Dartmouth, Mary A. MacDonald, Port Hawkesbury; brothers Jim, Hamilton; Leslie, Neils Harbour. He was predeceased by sisters, Grace, Trypena and Martha, brothers, Hector and Bob. Resting in Green's Funeral Home, Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Sunday at 2 p.m. from Stella Maris Church, Creignish, with Rev. Hugh D. MacDonald presiding. Much appreciation is extended to the home support workers for their compassion and care. Memorial donations may be made to the Judique Volunteer Fire Department or Strait Richmond Palliative Care. Messages to the family may be made by visiting www.greensfuneralhome.ca. *********************************************** Bruce Eugene 'Poppy' Goodwin Born in: Clark's Harbour, Shelburne County, Nova Scotia, Canada Born on: 06/03/1919 Passed away in: Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 25/11/2010 We regret to announce the passing of Bruce Goodwin, 91, on Thursday, Nov. 25, 2010, at the Veterans Wing of Harbour View Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Clark's Harbour, Cape Sable Island, Shelburne County, March 6, 1919, he was a son of the late Maynard and Ida (Nickerson) Goodwin. Bruce was transferred to the 36 Battery in Sydney Mines during the Second World War, where he met his wife Margaret MacKeigan. Soon after their marriage, he was sent overseas, where he served in England, France, Holland, Italy and Belgium. He also participated in the liberation of Holland. After the war, he worked for many years as a mechanic at Gooding's Garage and the British Canadian Co-Op Garage in Sydney Mines, and as janitor of both the Bank of Nova Scotia and the Royal Bank. Bruce is survived by his daughter, Beverley (Thomas) Campbell, Millville, with whom he resided for 22 years before taking up residence at the Veterans Wing in Harbour View Hospital in 2009. He is also survived by his son, Frederick Goodwin, Sydney; and one grandson, Christopher Campbell; sisters, Blanche (Avery) Nickerson, Clark's Harbour, Carol (Rod) Cooke, Ottawa; and a brother, Malcolm Goodwin, Ossipee, N.H. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Margaret (MacKeigan) Goodwin, son, Bruce Blanchard Goodwin Jr., sisters, Emma, Goldie, Marie, Mildred, Edith, Sheila and Lillian and brothers, Robert, Harold, Carleton and Frederick. Visitation for Bruce Goodwin will be held in the J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, Sunday, Nov. 28 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will take place Monday at 2 p.m. in Clyde Avenue Baptist Church with Rev. David Hopper officiating. The burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, Sydney Mines. Family flowers only please. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bruce's memory may be made to the Clyde Avenue Baptist Church Memorial Building Fund, or to a charity of one's choice. Born in Sydney, Kevin was a son of Eunice (MacDonald) Lively, Sydney, and the late Alex Lively. Surviving are his daughter, Alison, Marion Bridge; son, Kevin, Kingston; sisters, Arlene (Dan) Fraser, Sydney, Ginny (Bob) Pawlik, Saskatchewan, Sandy (Charlie) Malinowski, Sydney, Joyce (Kevin MacNeil), Sydney, and Michelle (Gary) Ross, Moncton; brothers, Jack (Judy), Howie Centre, Barry, Calgary, and Lawrie (Joyce), Sydney; three grandchildren, Lyle, Shamus and Gracen. Besides his father, Kevin was predeceased by his brother, Sandy. Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel today (Friday) 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church on Saturday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Anthony O'Connor officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the An Cala palliative care unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital or the VON.
