Adam Lees Passed away in: Lake Ainslie, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 14/11/2010 Rev. Adam Lees, B.Th., M.Div., I. Eng., M.I. Mar. E., 74, Lake Ainslie, Inverness County; passed away Sunday, Nov. 14, 2010, in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital, after a valiant struggle with cancer. Born in Couper, Scotland, he was a son of the late James and Elizabeth (Anderson) Lees. Adam served with the royal fleet auxiliary as an engineer. He immigrated to Canada in 1966; a marine engineer by trade, Adam was ordained to the Presbyterian ministry in 1988. His years of ministry were a conviction of heart and soul serving the Lord and the people of the communities in which he lived. Adam was a man of his word, very compassionate and gave fully of himself in all that he did, helping countless people in all kinds of situations, whenever and wherever the need arose. Adam was a man of principle who possessed the courage of his convictions. He deeply loved the congregation he served at St. Andrew's, Whycocomagh, and Little Narrows Presbyterian Church and referred to his ministry there as the high point of his life. Adam was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 123, Whycocomagh, Sircom Lodge 66, Whycocomagh, Lake Ainslie Historical Society and the Gaelic Music Group. He was an avid reader, loved gardening, woodwork, sailing and repairing old clocks. Adam had a brilliant mind, and was often described as a man ahead of his time. He loved the Gaelic language and revelled in any opportunity to converse with those who shared that same passion. He is survived by his loving wife, Vera (Christie) Lees; brothers, Robert and Albert Lees, Scotland; as well as many nieces and nephews, who also reside in Scotland. He was predeceased by his brother, Jim. There will no visitation. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 19, 2010, in Little Narrows Presbyterian Church conducted by Presbytery of Cape Breton, with Moderator Rev. Marion Barclay MacKay officiating, assisted by other clergy. Burial will take place in Scotland at a later date. Memorial donations in memory of Adam may be made to a charity of choice. "He will be deeply missed." ****************************************** Thomas 'Connie' McIntyre Born in: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada Born on: 11/10/1930 Passed away in: Waterloo, Ontario, Canada Passed away on: 15/11/2010 It is with heavy hearts that Connie's daughters, Chantal McIntyre, Waterloo, ON, and Tanya (Lance Lickfold) McIntyre, Mallorca, Spain announce the passing of their father in the Freeport Hospital in Kitchener, Ontario on Monday, November 15, 2010. Connie will be remembered and sadly missed by his grandson, Tyler McIntyre, Waterloo; his sisters, Anne (Vince) McDonald, Halifax and Ursula Taylor, Ottawa and his life-long best friends Donny and Norma Roper, Reserve. Connie was born in Glace Bay, to the late Peter and Annie (Connington) McIntyre, on October 11, 1930. Predeceased by his sister, Joan (Peter John) McDonald and brothers Manning, Bernard, Allister and Charlie. Growing up in Glace Bay was a series of commitments to family and friendships; with many years spent in the real estate industry. Connie retired to Florida in 1991, and moved to Ontario in 2002 to be close to his two girls and his grandson, where he continued to live a full and happy life while being a constant inspiration and example of loving kindness in every life he touched. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Thursday 7-9 p.m. in Curry's Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. Funeral Mass of Resurrection will be 2 p.m. Friday in Immaculate Conception Parish Church, Fr. Daniel Boudreau officiating. 'Bette' Ogley Born in: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 16/11/2010 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Anne Elizabeth 'Bette' Ogley. Bette, a former resident of 11th Street, Glace Bay, and more recently Seaview Manor, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2010, at the Glace Bay Hospital. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late William and Beatrice (Boone) Martin and was a member of St. John's Church, Glace Bay. Bette, better known as 'Nanny' was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother who will be truly missed. She enjoyed playing bingo, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, video games, especially Q-Bert and pin ball and in earlier years camping and swimming. She also looked forward to her games of tarabish with her family and playing solitaire. She enjoyed baking for her family, her speciality was baking bread. She had a great sense of humour and loved being surrounded by her family. Nanny will be forever missed by her daughters, Beatrice, Hilda (Bruce) Pittman, Martha, Karen, Bernadette (Sam) Jessome, all of Glace Bay; sons, Billy, Ontario, Joey (Joanne), Glace Bay, Pat (Joanne), Halifax, Lloyd (Karen), Glace Bay, Barry (Dale), Alberta, Paul (Shelly), Ontario, Bernie, Blaine (Michelle), both of Glace Bay; stepdaughters, Kay (Morris) Smith, Ontario, Norma (Danny) MacNeil Antigonish; stepsons, Butch (Gladys), Melvin, both of Ontario, Max (Pat), River Ryan; 62 grandchildren; 78 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Walter Ogley (1973), sons Raynard, Blair, stepdaughter, Lena, stepsons, Walter 'Buster', Tom, Charles 'Bear,' Frank, and sister, Rita Tarrmorvorra. In honouring Nanny's wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Thursday, Nov. 18 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m., Friday at St. John's Church, Glace Bay, with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. Interment will be held in the parish cemetery. At this time, we, Bette's family, would like to sincerely thank the staff of Seaview Manor for the care and compassion shown to our Mom during her years as a resident and also to student volunteers Paige MacLean and Patrick Simms who assisted the staff at meal times. Online condolences to the Ogley family are available through www.vjmcgillivray.ca. ************************************ Kelly Palmer Born in: Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Harris Kelly Palmer (RCMP S/Sgt, retired), 68, of Halifax (previously of Coxheath, N.S.) passed away peacefully after a long courageous battle with cancer. Born in Sydney, N.S. in 1942, he was the son of the late Harris Harding 'Chipper' and Janet Helen Alice (MacDougall) Palmer. At age 19, he joined the RCMP in 1961 and served in numerous locations in Ontario, Newfoundland and Nova Scotia, retiring in 1995 to enjoy precious time with his wife and true love, Beverly Grace (Green) of Whitney Pier. In 1999, they chose Coxheath, N.S., for their retirement home, close to family and friends. After losing Beverly to cancer in 2007, he continued to enjoy life despite his sorrow, bravely fighting cancer himself while enjoying the company of family and friends, and a newly discovered passion, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. All will remember Kelly as a role model and a man of amazing positive energy and talents, as he touched the hearts of so many. He is survived by his brother, Donald Palmer, Toronto; sister, Barbara Palmer, Sydney; son, Scott (companion Susan Fontaine) and grandchildren, Nicholas and Alexandra Palmer, all of Halifax, their mom, Jane (Dillman), Toronto; as well as an extensive list of close family and friends that made up his life's network. Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late Alex Angus and Mary Cecile (Aucoin) MacIsaac. Agnes was one of the first residents of the Louisdale Community Home, Duncan Road, Louisdale, where she resided for the past 15 years. She referred to this as her second home and her extended family. She is survived by her sisters, Margaret Forbes (John), Ottawa, Diana Miller (Gerry), Truro, Betty Marchand, Louisdale; sister-in-law, Doris (LaVallee), Saskatchewan; brothers, Raymond (Lenora), New Waterford, Maurice (Moe), Marion Bridge, Alex J. (Carmel), Timberlea, Francis (Debbie), Coxheath, Roger (Debbie), Ottawa, Richard (Carrie), Antigonish. She was predeceased by brothers, Gordon and Dominic in infancy. Cremation has taken place. She had been residing at the Congregation of Notre Dame Health Care Center, MacGillivray Guest Home, Sydney, since May, 2010. Burial in Brookside Cemetery, Sydney Mines. ****************************************** Carmen Lebrun (nee Binder) The family announces with sorrow the passing of Carmen, age 82, dear wife of the late Gilbert Lebrun (1994). Carmen was predeceased by her son Leo Lebrun (2008), grandson Kevin Lebrun (2006), granddaughter Shelley Lebrun (1992), and step-father Gordon Lewis. Carmen was also predeceased by brothers Fred (Mary), John, Simon, Bill, George, and sisters Liz and Irene. Carmen is survived by her mother Annie Lewis and sons George (Linda), Clifford (Rose), Junior (Joanne) of Timmins, son Gary (Sue) of Stoney Creek, sister Sheila and brothers Ed, Malcom and Rick. Carmen is survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she loved very much. Carmen will also be sadly missed by a special nephew and niece, Blaise and Linda Binder and the entire Binder family. Carmen was born in New Aberdeen, Glace Bay, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. She was a life long member of the Ladies Auxillary Legion 88. She was very active in the Legion and always there when they needed help. Carmen also loved playing darts and won many trophies. In lieu of flowers, remembrances donations can be made to the ladies Auxillary Branch 287 or the Diabetes Association. Special thanks to Dr. Cohen, Dr. Schwertfeger, Dr Auger, and the excellent nursing staff at the Timmins and District Hospital. Funeral service will be held on Thursday November 18, 2010 at 11 am in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at the Timmins Memorial Cemetery.
