Rosslin Fraser Richard Pearo ******************************************************************************************************* Les Clarke Born in: Florence, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: Florence, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 22/11/2010 On Monday evening, Nov. 22, 2010, Les passed away peacefully at the Northside General Hospital with his loving wife of 60 years, Josephine, holding his hand. Born in Florence, Les was the youngest son of the late William and Annie Janet (MacLeod) Clarke. Les was hired on at Florence Colliery in March 1950. He worked in Florence, Princess, Lingan and Prince mines, retiring in 1995, after 45 years. He was also a draegerman for several years. In his younger years, Les enjoyed hunting, reading, hockey, tennis, badminton, baseball and coached a few teams. He enjoyed life's simple pleasures and appreciated the beauty of nature on his daily walks. He especially enjoyed spending summers on the Florence back beach. Les is survived by his wife, Josephine (MacFarlane) Clarke; son, Jim, at home; daughters, Joan (André) Cantwell, Dalem Lake, Brenda (Bert) Boutilier, Little Pond, and their children, Erika and Greg and Debbie ( Harris) Stubbert, Millville. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Helen Clarke, Little Pond, and Arlene Clarke, Regina. Les is also survived by several nieces, nephews, good neighbours, friends and beach buddies who were very good to visit him and bring him treats. Les was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, John, Albert, Daniel, Gordon, Walter and Frederick, as well as sisters, Flossie MacKeigan and Annie March. Visitation for the late Les Clarke will be held in the J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, today (Wednesday) Nov. 24, 2010, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service celebrating his life will take place Thursday at 3 p.m. in Wilson United Church, Florence, with Rev. David Luker officiating. A reception will follow the service at the Florence legion. Walker Passed away in: Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 22/11/2010 Daniel James Walker, 52, passed away peacefully on Monday, Nov. 22, 2010, at home, surrounded by the love and prayers of family and friends. Dan's memory will be forever cherished by his wife, Diane McLean Walker; his three children, Tina Morgan and husband, Tim, Gore; John Walker and partner, Julia Legge, Antigonish; Danielle Harpell and husband, Tyson, Calgary; stepson, David Height and partner, Celeste Leblanc, Amherst; and his four beloved grandchildren, Thane, Tanner, Elyse and Rylan; parents, John and Mabel Walker, Truro; his two sisters, Catherine, Edmonton, and Anne, Truro, and brother, Allan, Hartland, N.B., will hold Danny in their hearts and prayers forever. Dan will also be missed by his extended family and by a large circle of friends and work colleagues. Born and raised in Truro, Dan spent his childhood summers on the Walker family farm in Ottawa Brook, Cape Breton. To no one's surprise, he attended the Nova Scotia Agriculture College and went on to enjoy a 30-year career managing large poultry operations in Pasadena, Nfld.; Milford, Port Williams, and Amherst, N.S. at Maritime Pride. For the last two years Dan was the field operations inspector for the Egg Farmers Of Canada travelling the rural roads of Atlantic Canada. Dan was an active member of the Milford fire department and later in Canning and Scott's Bay fire departments. Dan was a farmer-at-heart, a passionate gardener and an avid reader. He took much pleasure in creating beautiful and comfortable homes with Diane and was most proud of their children and grandchildren. Dan was hard working and a devoted family man, who was well respected and loved by all who knew him. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Nov. 25, 2010, from 7-9 p.m. in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, with a celebration of Dan's life on Friday, Nov. 26 at 2 p.m. in the funeral home. Boone Born in: Birch Grove, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: Birch Grove, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 23/11/2010 Anne Boone, a life long resident of Birch Grove died at the family home Monday, Nov. 22, 2010. She was a daughter of the late Malcolm A. and Doris (Taylor) MacDonald. A community-minded lady, she was a member of the Birch Grove Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and had been a member of MacKay Memorial United Church. She was predeceased by her husband Frank Boone. Surviving are her children, Caroll Anne (David), Port Hawkesbury, Keith (Wonda) Boone, Birch Grove, Dayle (Kevin), Donkin, Shelley (Marco), Broughton, Jeri Lynn (Kevin), Birch Grove. Also 19 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Alice MacPherson, Ontario; two brothers, Jack (Elaine) MacDonald, Glace Bay, Hugh (Dianne) MacDonald, Birch Grove; and special friends, Kenny and Donna Cunningham, Marconi Towers. She was also predeceased by an infant brother, Allister and two brothers, Keith and Allister. A Christian farewell service will be conducted in Curry's Funeral Home Chapel, 775 Main St., Glace Bay, on Thursday at 2 p.m. with Martha Macdonald officiating. Burial will follow in Black Brook Cemetery. All are invited to a reception at the Birch Grove Fire Hall afterwards. Family flowers only please. Donations to a charity of choice. To us she was someone special, Someone set apart, Her memory will live forever, Engraved within our hearts. ************************************************ Jack Haydu Born in: Calgary, Alberta, Canada Passed away in: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 23/11/2010 It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Jack Haydu at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010. Born in Calgary, Alta., where he spent the most of his life, until three years ago when he moved to Glace Bay, N.S. He was the son of the late Doris (Procter) and John Haydu. Jack leaves behind his wife, Betty (DeLaval) Haydu. Also survived by his sons, John (Angela) Haydu; daughters, Mary (Mathew) Heimer, Leslie, Joel, Angel (Shaun) Quinn, Melissa (Calvin) Herman, all residing in Calgary. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Alyssa, Erik, Baily, Taylor, Jayden, Jessie, Justin, Anthony, Caitlin and Riley. Also surviving are his brother, Stan (Heather) Haydu, Taber, Alta., and his sister, Cathey Proctor, Medicine Hat, Alta. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Bryan, sisters, Marge and Eileen. He will be missed by many sisters and brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews. Born on Cornwallis Street in Sydney, Roy was the son of the late Ewen and Lydia (Cameron) Morrison. He was predeceased by his wife, Lucette Dumoulin. Roy is survived by brother, Melvin (the late Gladys) and sister, Margaret (the late George) Tiller. Roy was predeceased by brothers, Ewen and Edward (Claire) and by sisters, Evelyn and Emily. He is also remembered by many nieces and nephews. There will be a committal service Nov. 26, 2010, at 1 p.m. at Hardwood Hill Cemetery. ************************************************* A. Rosslin Fraser, 66, of North Sydney, formerly of Sydney Mines, passed away on Nov. 23, 2010, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. She was the daughter of Adrienne Patterson and the late A. Ross Fraser. Rosslin is survived by her mother; her sister, Barbara, Sydney Mines and her brother, Allan, Ross Ferry. She is also survived by her nephews, Ross (Margie) MacLeod, Mark (Kathy) MacLeod, Craig (Ann Marie) MacLeod, Matthew and Andrew Fraser and her niece, Ronda (Glenn) O'Neil. She was predeceased by her father, A. Ross Fraser and sisters, Jean Ludlow and Mary Hamilton. There will be no visitation; cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Nov. 25, 2010, at 2 p.m. in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Queen Street, Sydney Mines, with Rev. Marion Barclay MacKay officiating. Born in Alder Point, C.B., he was the son of the late John William and Mary Elizabeth (Dugaust) Pearo. Loving husband of Louise; father of Amanda, Raymond, Richard; several grandchildren; brother of Raymond, Lorna, Edith, Myrtle, Debbie, late Isabell, Joan and Barbara Jean. Richard retired from the Canadian army after serving for many years, he will be buried in the Military Cemetery, Shilo, Man.
