Katherine 'Kaye' Halliday Born in: West Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada Born on: 16/11/1917 Passed away in: Guysborough, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 22/11/2010 We deeply regret and are very saddened, to announce the passing of our wonderful and loving mother, grandmother, great- grandmother and great great-grandmother, Katherine Mary (MacLean) Halliday, on November 22, 2010 in Guysborough, NS. Born in West Bay, on November 16, 1917, to the late William and Mary Elizabeth (Campbell) MacLean. Mom moved to Sydney at a young age, where she met and married our father, George Halliday. Together they raised five children. Mom was predeceased by two children in infancy, Georgina Katherine and Thomas William; brothers, Alex, Roddie, Donald and Howard; stepfather, William Gray, as well as our Dad in July 2004. She is survived by her children, June Boutilier (Calvin), Sydney, Karen Kickham (Terry, deceased), Windsor, Ont., Bob (Patti), Dartmouth, Donna MacDonald (Miles), Guysborough and Debbie Denny (Nick), Sydney. She is also survived by her brother, Willie, West Bay Road; sisters, Miriam Ryer, Dartmouth and Genevieve MacEachern, Oakville, Ont., 14 grandchildren, 17 great- grandchildren and one great great-granddaughter. For many years, Mom was an active member of Bethel Presbyterian Church, the Bethel Presbyterian Church Friendship Guild, Luther Young Missionary Society and the Order of Eastern Star. Mom was a resident of Williston House in Sydney for over six years and had many wonderful and caring friends there. She moved to the Milford Haven Home in Guysborough in October of 2009. The staff at Milford Haven were absolutely wonderful to her and words cannot express our thanks to everyone there for the wonderful care they gave to our Mom. Family flowers only. Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Thursday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A memorial service will be held Friday 2 p.m. at Bethel Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Robert Lyle officiating. Born in New Victoria, he was a son of the late Rita Lamey (MacDonald). He was a member of the Merchant Seaman Association, New Victoria Fire Department and New Waterford Historical Society. Dad was very active in his community, always willing to lend a helping hand when needed. Tom was instrumental in erecting a monument with good friend 'Ebby' in New Victoria in honour of fallen comrades who never returned home. He is survived by his children, daughters, Harriet (George) Hawley, Marilyn (John) Clements, Wanda (David) Rose, Rita (Leo) Murphy; sons, Everett (Cathy), Tony (Elaine), Blair (Darlene), Billy (Tara) and Harold. Also surviving are 23 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Gouthro; brother, Harold; stepbrothers, Tony MacDonald, Johnny MacDonald; stepsister, Kathleen. Tom was predeceased by his wife, Eva, daughters, Donna Marie and baby Mary, grandsons, Tony Hawley and Michael Rose, mother, Rita MacDonald and stepbrother, Billy. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration for Tom will take place Thursday, Nov. 25, at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Eunice was born in English Harbour West, Fortune Bay, N.L., and was the daughter of the late William and Mary Fiander. She resided most of her life in Whitney Pier, later to move to Maple Ridge Manor, Sydney. Eunice was a member of St. Mary's Polish Church. She enjoyed her evenings at the Maple Ridge Manor playing cards, bingo and attending the many socials in the common room. She looked forward to Wednesday bingo and loved going for drives and for something to eat with the family and calling all the children every evening to say good night. She was a very devoted wife and mother and will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Eunice is survived by her five children, Bill (Miriam), Sydney River, Cathy (Roy) Mugford, Glace Bay, Richard (Patti), Ontario, Colleen MacLennan, Sydney, and David (Lisa), Halifax. Born in Glace Bay, Nancy was the daughter of John E. 'Jack' and Philomena (Detcheverry) MacInnis, Steel's Hill. Nancy leaves behind her beloved boys, Tyler and Spencer Gouthro, at home. Nancy is also survived by sister, Brenda Doue (Paris Landry), Sydney Mines; brother, Blair, Glace Bay; cousin, Tammy Oulton (Jon), Grand Pre; and lifelong friend, Laura Lee Sharpe, Reserve Mines and "the Girls." Nancy will be missed by so many special aunts, uncles and cousins. Nancy is predeceased by maternal grandparents, Louis and Tilley Detcheverry and paternal grandparents, Catherine and John E. MacInnis Nancy graduated from St. Michael's High School in 1984, she went on to graduate from Cape Breton University in 1986 and received her bachelor of business administration from Acadia University in 1989. Nancy was president of the Accounting Society at Acadia University during 1988-89. She went on to have a successful career with CRA in Sydney where she was not only employed, but a member of a family of professionals. During her employment with CRA she was active in her union role; she served as treasurer and vice-president for the local sub-group union committee of PIPSC. Nancy was active in her community. She served on the board of directors for the Jewels and Gems Daycare and was very involved in the daycare's move to Marion Street. Nancy also served as treasurer for St. Anne's Elementary home and school committee from 2005 to 2010. Nancy lived her life with dignity, loyalty and a love for others. The greatest testament to this is the multitude of people that will forever call her a "true friend." Nancy asked that we express her sincere thanks to all those that took part in her care, in particular her aunt, Donna Boyer, Laura Lee Sharpe and the staff and physicians at the Cape Breton Cancer Centre, Palliative Care Services and VON Cape Breton. In honouring Nancy's wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation for Nancy will be held Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010, between 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, he will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Passed away in Alderwood Rest Home, Baddeck on Sunday, November 21, 2010. Marney was born in Sydney to the late James and Florence MacLeod. She lived most of her life in Sydney with her husband the late William A. 'Billy' Urquhart upon retirement they moved to West Bay. Quilting was a large part of Mom's life with her last quilt completed earlier this year. Marney was a member of West Bay United Church. Mom was active in her community being involved with The West Bay Seniors, two dart leagues and a local bowling group. Mom is survived by daughter, Laurie (Sheldon) Hewey, New Glasgow; son-in-law, John Parsons, Kentville; son, Jamie (Loraine) Urquhart, West Bay; grandchildren, Meghan (Rob), Dartmouth; Ian and Brian Urquhart, West Bay; great-grandson, Isaiah Carter, Antigonish; sisters, Joyce Barry, Kimberly, BC; Florence (John) Mullowney, Sydney. Born in Ingonish, C.B., May 24, 1921, she was a daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Noseworthy) Jackson. She was raised in North Sydney. After her marriage she lived in North Sydney, Westmount and Sydney with many summers spent in her favourite spot, Ingonish, where she finally returned to live permanently. Mary was a former member of the UCW in Sydney, a foster parent to dozens of children and gave them the TLC they so needed. She was dedicated to her family and the Anthony homes were always the focal point for family and friends. She was an outstanding hostess. She created marvellous birthday cakes for so many of us as well as beautiful sweaters that we will always treasure. She was a true lady; her twinkling blue eyes and engaging smile charmed many a folk. Our heartfelt thanks to many relatives and friends who gave their loving support to Mom during these last few years. She cherished and was cherished. She is survived by sons, David (Georgette) , West Quoddy, N.S., Robert (Jill), Brampton, Ont.; brother, Cecil (Muriel), North Sydney; sister, Doris Cooper, Ingonish; granddaughter, Amberlee (Jason Gibson), Toronto; numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews, great nieces, great great nephews and great great nieces.
