Donald Clarence Powers Dana Lynn (Lorway) Fraser Murvale Lloyd MacKinnon John Delaney Coleman Laura Lee MacKenzie ******************************************************************************************************* Donald Clarence Powers Born in: Neil's Harbour, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: Ingonish Beach, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 27/11/2010 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our youngest brother, Donald 'Donnie' Powers. Donald passed away Nov. 27, 2010, in Buchanan Memorial Hospital with his family by his side. Born in Neils Harbour in 1961, Donald was a son of the late Frank and Frances (Doucette) Powers. Donald enjoyed skiing and doing many odd jobs in the community when needed. He was employed at the Keltic Lodge for many years, then at Home Hardware. Donald will be forever missed by his family. He is survived by sisters, Darlene Jordan, Trenton, Heather (Mark) MacDougall, Ingonish Beach, Peg (Francis) Barron, Ingonish; brothers, Joe Powers, Sydney, Jim (Lynda) Powers, Sydney, Wayne (Joyce) Powers, Ingonish Beach, Monty (Nancy) Powers, Sydney; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Besides his parents, Donald was also predeceased by sisters, Josie Jean and Mary, brother, Stewart. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 29 and 30 in Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home, Ingonish. A funeral mass will be held 11 a.m Wednesday, Dec. 1 in St. Peter's Church, Ingonish, Rev. Dan MacDonald will officiate. Interment in parish cemetery. Donations in Donald's memory may be made to the North of Smokey Palliative Care or a charity of choice. Online condolences may be made at www.fillmoreandwhitman.com. ****************************************************** Dana Lynn (Lorway) Fraser Born in: Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Born on: 28/06/1974 Passed away in: Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Passed away on: 20/11/2010 It is with great sadness that we the family of Dana Fraser (Lorway) announce her passing on Nov. 20, 2010, at the Burnaby General Hospital in B.C. Dana lost her two-year battle with cancer and passed away peacefully with her family by her side. Dana was born on June 28, 1974, in Sydney, N.S. She loved Cape Breton and was proud to call it home. In 2000 Dana moved to Vancouver and was employed by Terra Nova Mortgage Corp. and enjoyed her working life in Yaletown. She enjoyed life to the fullest and was a true friend to everyone she met. Besides her parents, Ronald and Shirley Lorway, Dana is survived by her husband and love of her life, Trevor Fraser; sister, Charlotte (Shawn); nieces, Shara (Chad) and Kelsey, Sydney; brother, Darren (Lucy), B.C.; niece, Ashley (Keigan), Sydney; and step-grandmother, Annie Fifield, Sydney; mother and father-in-law, Faye and Wayne Fraser, New Brunswick; brother-in-law, Craig (Christie) and their children, Riley and Taya, Vancouver; brother-in-law, Brent (Dale), Vancouver as well as several aunts and uncles. Dana was predeceased by her grandparents, William and Susan Fifield, John and Charlotte Lorway and step-grandmother Etta Lorway. Dana's love for her family and friends had a profound effect on many. Her love of life, her infectious smile and warm heart will be greatly missed. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 1 at the Salvation Army Community Church, Inglis Street, Sydney at 7 p.m. Reception to follow in the church hall. Donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Palliative Care or charity of choice in memory of Dana. *********************************************** Murvale Lloyd MacKinnon Passed away in: Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 27/11/2010 The family of the beloved Murvale MacKinnon (son of the late Al and Ruby MacKinnon), who passed away at his home surrounded by immeasurable warmth and love in Sydney Mines, Nov. 27, 2010, will be celebrating his life at Sydney Memorial Chapel from 1-4 p.m. today (Monday, Nov. 29). His best friend and soul mate, Jennifer, along with their children, Chris, Susan, Sean, Laura, Erin, Brian; siblings, Sandy, Alistair and Anne Marie gratefully request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada, Palliative Care, or the VON. ****************************************** John Delaney Coleman Born in: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada Born on: 05/02/1934 Passed away in: Sydney River, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 27/11/2010 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dearly beloved John Coleman Sr. on Saturday, Nov. 27, 2010, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born in Glace Bay, Feb. 5, 1934, to his parents, the late Arthur and Maggie Coleman. John was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Sydney River. He was also a proud member of The Knight's of Columbus, M.M. Coady Council 9476 and was a fourth degree member in the organization dating back to Corner Brook, N.L. He was an honorary lifetime member. John had a gentle heart and was always willing to give with all his capacity. He is survived by his wife, Coreen; stepdaughter, Janine Carroll; two very grateful stepgrandchildren, Tyrel and Teaonna; his children, John (Arlene), Hantsport, Gerard (Debbie), Hammonds Plain, Helen (Todd) Halifax, Anne Marie, Corner Brook, Mary (Arnie), Corner Brook, Barbara (Tony), Corner Brook, Sheila (Eric), Corner Brook, Paul (Helen), Corner Brook, Christine, St. John's; 18 grandchildren; four special great-grandchildren; two brothers, Joe and Gerald; sister, Helen. Besides his parents, John was predeceased by his brothers, Eddie, Harold and Eugene. Visitation will take place today (Monday, Nov. 29), from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the S.W. Chant and Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. A funeral mass will be celebrated Tuesday, Nov. 30, at 11 am in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Sydney River, with Rev. Will MacPherson officiating. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.chantfuneralhome.com. ********************************************* Laura Lee MacKenzie Born in: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: Dominion, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 27/11/2010 Laura Lee MacKenzie, 43, of Mitchell Avenue, Dominion, passed away Saturday, Nov. 27, 2010, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Glace Bay, Laura Lee was the daughter of Mary (Moffatt) Demeyere and the late Clarence Demeyere. She was a member of Chalmers United Church, Dominion. Laura graduated in 1986 from MacDonald High School, Dominion, the Cape Breton Business College, Sydney and CHIMA in 2004. She began her career in 1988 at Sydney City Hospital, later moving on to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital and then to the Glace Bay Hospital as a health record technician. Laura Lee taught medical terminology to students in the evening at Glace Bay High School and was also a very successful business woman. She enjoyed spending time at her cottage with family and friends as well as travelling to Cuba. Laura had a deep affection for animals, especially her dog, Allie Bree. She was very proud to be a hockey and baseball mom to her two boys. Laura loved life and had the ability to pass this passion onto all those she encountered. Outgoing, personable, a great sense of humour and hard work ethic, were all words used to describe her nature. But mostly, Laura Lee will be remembered as a loving and compassionate, daughter, wife, mother and friend. Laura Lee is survived by her loving husband, Darren MacKenzie; two sons, Matthew, Adam, at home; sister, Melissa (Greg), Dominion; three nieces, Emily, Crystal, Corissa and her maternal grandmother, Rachael Moffatt, Dominion. Also surviving are Laura Lee's mother-in-law, Lonnie MacKenzie; brother-in-law, Chester (Tracey); sister-in-law, Catherine and very special aunts, uncles and cousins. Besides her father, Laura Lee was predeceased by two brothers, David, Clarence 'Clarie', maternal grandfather, John Moffatt, paternal grandparents, Albert and Abby Jane Demeyere and her father-in-law, Chester MacKenzie. Cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay, with Martha MacDonald officiating. Interment will be held at a later date. As an expression of sympathy for Laura, memorial donations in her memory may be made to the SPCA.
