Arlene (Devoe) Gordon Elizabeth 'Betty' Ingraham Maude MacLeod Judith (Muise) Flynn Heather (MacNeil) Adams ******************************************************************************************************* Arlene (Devoe) Gordon Born in: Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Passed away on: 04/11/2010 We, the family of Arlene (Devoe) Gordon, regret to announce her passing on Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010, at St. Vincent Hospital, Ottawa, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late Charles Devoe and Florence (McCormick) Devoe-Ross. Arlene was a very kind, understanding, hard-working woman who never gave up on anyone or anything. She will be forever missed by many friends and relatives in the Cape Breton area, although she lived in Ontario most of her adult life. Arlene will never be forgotten. She is survived by her loving sons, David and Darryl Gordon, both living in Ottawa. She is also survived by her sister, Debra, Cape Breton; sister, Arthena, brother, Maurice, both in Dartmouth, and brother, Michael (Irene), Thunder Bay. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Michael Gordon, her brothers, Raymond and Richard Devoe and her sister, Dolena Devoe. Donations in Arlene's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Betty passed away on Oct. 29, 2010, at the age of 62, in Ontario. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Hennietta MacPherson. Betty was the beloved wife of the late Jake Ingraham (1999). She is the loving mother of Kim Ingraham, loving grandmother of Calvin and Joshua Thomas. She is also survived by sisters, Doreen (Michael) Campbell, Virginia MacNeil (Bruce), Debbie (John) Currie, Bonita MacPherson; brothers, Daniel (Shirley) MacPherson, Michael (Mary) MacPherson; several nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. Betty was also predeceased by her son, Jerry Ingraham (1992) and sister, Beverly MacPhee. Cremation has taken place and arrangements entrusted to V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay (902-849-4505). Interment will take place 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010, in Greenwood Cemetery, Glace Bay. Online condolences to the family are available through www.vjmcgillivray.ca. ************************************** Maude MacLeod Born in: Ingonish, Nova Scotia, Canada Born on: 04/12/1917 Passed away in: Neil's Harbour, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 02/11/2010 With sadness we mourn the passing of a unique and special lady. Maude, the last surviving member of her immediate family, passed away Nov. 2, 2010 in Buchanan Memorial Hospital, Neil's Harbour, N.S. Born on Dec. 4, 1917 in Ingonish, she was the daughter of the late William H. and Mary Susan 'Mamie' (Cann) MacLeod. She attended business school in Sydney and worked until retirement for a large paper company in Toronto. Upon retirement she moved back to Ingonish, with her long-time companion, Jim Dunphy, to live in the family home. She was predeceased by her sisters, Mary, Sadie, Isabelle (Suffidy), Edna (Wilcox) and Helen (Jackson); brothers, Jack, Walter, Bert, Alex, Jackson and Gordon. She is survived by a special sister-in-law, Evelyn, and many loving nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. A family graveside service will be held on Friday in Ingonish. Special thanks and gratitude to her home care workers, doctors and staff of Buchanan Memorial Hospital. ************************************** Judith (Muise) Flynn Born in: Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 01/11/2010 It is with great sadness that we, the family of Judith Flynn, announce her passing on Monday, Nov. 1, 2010, at the Victoria General Hospital, Halifax, after a short battle with cancer. Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Wilfred and Violet (Keeping) Muise. Judith was a member of Holy Redeemer parish. She was formerly employed with John Pope Surveyors, Cunningham Drapery Ltd. and Tim Hortons. Surviving are her husband of 35 years, Edward; daughter, Natalie (Chuck Simm), Halifax; son, Chad (Jennifer), Sydney; sisters, Louise Muise, Darlene Muise, Debbie (Bernie) Campbell, Pamela Muise and Beverley Hasiuk, Sydney; brothers, Brian (Cynthia), David (Sandra), Terry (Joanne) and Kenny, Sydney; many nieces and nephews. Judith was predeceased by her sister, Brenda Litowski and brother, Brian in infancy. Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at Holy Redeemer Church, Saturday, 11 a.m. with Rev. Errol MacDonald officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery. Family flowers only, memorials may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Holy Redeemer Building Fund. It is with great sadness that we, the family of Heather Adams, announce her passing on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010 in the An Cala Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was 49 years old. Heather was a graduate of Holy Angels High School. She was employed by Tim Hortons Donuts for 16 years and was very well known in the community for work with Girl Guides. She was an avid crafter participating in many craft shows over the years, as well as a member of TOPS. Heather was born in Alymer, Ont. on Nov. 4, 1960, She was predeceased by her parents, P.C. (Cam) and Loretta (Landry) MacNeil. She is survived by her husband of 27 years, John and her children, Nicholas, Sarah (Steven) Holland and Kelly; stepmother, Celina MacNeil; brothers, Harold, Ian, Charles (Audrey), John and Colin (Lisa) MacNeil; in-laws, Jack and Shirley Adams (Grampie and Grammie); sister-in-law, Sandra (Seward) MacLean; brother-in-law, Walter (predeceased Carole Anne) Adams; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and her two cats, Baby and Cagney. She had great love for her many friends and family; and will be greatly missed by all. Memorial service to celebrate Heather's life will be held Friday, Nov. 5, 2010 at 3:30 p.m. at Bethel Presbyterian Church, corner of George and Brookland Streets, Sydney with Rev. Robert Lyle officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall. Burial will take place in MacDonald Memorial Cemetery, Ross Ferry, at a later date. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers donations in Heather's memory may be made to the An Cala Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital or the Canadian Cancer Society.
