Gupta Colleen Margaret Campbell, RN ******************************************************************************************************* Charles Wilson MacLeod Born In: Port Morien, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away In: Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away On: 05/08/2011 Charles Wilson MacLeod, 88, of Dartmouth, passed away peacefully at the Dartmouth General Hospital on Aug. 5, 2011. Born in Port Morien to the late Charlie and Flo (Smith) MacLeod. Wilson joined the RCAF in 1941and returned to civilan life in 1945. He was a part of the Point Edward Naval Fire Department and for several years was the Deputy Fire Marshall of Nova Scotia where he inspected and lectured from Yarmouth to Sydney. Later he was a building inspector for the Halifax County. He had a cottage on the St. Mary's River where he loved to fish salmon and trout with his special friend Howard (Hud) Hayne. He worked with the St. Mary's River Association for many years. He had may fisherman friends whom he would invite to the cottage for breakfast after a morning of fishing salmon. He is survived by his loving wife, the former Lois Boone, 10 days short of their 64th wedding anniversary. Also, daughter, Judy, Dartmouth; sons, Roger (Linda), Dartmouth, Laird (Katie), Toronto; sister, Irma (David) Watters, Toronto; grandchildren, Kris (Tanya) of Gander, N.L., Kendra (Monte), Dartmouth, Olivia and Nicola, Toronto; great-grandchildren, Emily, Jacob, Morgan, Jaeda and Phoenix. He was a family man who loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much. Wilson was predeceased by brothers, Angus and Sheldon. Cremation has taken place under the care of Donald K. Walker Funeral Director's Limited (469-5601), Dartmouth. The graveside service will be held at the Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney, C.B., at a later date. Gupta Born In: India Born On: 01/07/1927 Passed Away In: Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away On: 05/08/2011 Dr. J.S. Gupta was born and educated in India and later the United Kingdom. He trained in ophthalmology in London where he became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons. He worked in Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children for many years. From there he was invited by the Director of Medical Education and Research of the Government of Punjab (India) to head the department of ophthalmology of the newly established Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh, India. He published several research papers while working at the institute. In 1969, he moved to Canada and set up his practice in ophthalmology in Cape Breton. Through based in Sydney, as the only ophthalmologist in Cape Breton for several years, he provided care throughout the island to tens of thousands of patients. He practised here for 40 years introducing many innovative techniques for cataract surgery. Throughout his career he was active in professional organizations in India, the U.K. and Canada. Dr. Gupta is survived by his wife, Dr. Mohini Gupta (retired professor of political science at Cape Breton University); his son, Dr. Nalin Gupta (pediatric neurosurgeon at the University of California, San Francisco; and his daughter, Dr. Mona Gupta (psychiatrist at the University of Montreal in Quebec). He has five grandchildren, three girls (Naomi, Naya and Gopika) and two boys (Nilesh and Kavi). He is also survived by his two sisters, Usha Jindal, California, and Sheela Mittal, India; two brothers, Brij and Raj Gupta in India. He was predeceased by his parents. Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Welton Street, Sydney, on Tuesday, Aug. 9 from 12-2 p.m. Service will follow at 2 p.m. at the same location. Cremation will take place at Cape Breton Crematorium following the service. Family and friends are invited to attend the cremation, and prayers at the family home afterwards, 297 Newlands Ave., Sydney. In lieu of flowers, well-wishers are requested to send donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. *********************************** Colleen Margaret Campbell, RN Born In: New Victoria, Nova Scotia, Canada Born On: 05/01/1958 Passed Away In: River Ryan/New Victoria, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away On: 06/08/2011 It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Colleen Campbell, 53, at her home in River Ryan surrounded by her loving family. Born and raised in New Victoria, she was the daughter of Michael and the late Margaret 'Peggy' Campbell. Colleen is survived by her three sisters, Sharon (Greg MacMaster), New Victoria, N.S., Bernadette Campbell, Hamilton, Ont., Lorraine (Raymond MacDonald), River Ryan, N.S.; seven brothers, Michael (Jane), Elko, Nevada, Robbie (Alana), Cole Harbour, N.S., Bruce (Ann), Scotchtown, N.S., George (Susan), Scotchtown, N.S., Blaise (Joann), Timberlea, N.S., Hector (Tracey), Brantford, Ont., and Glen (Liza), New Waterford, N.S. Colleen was predeceased by her sister, Mary Blenkhorn in 1995, maternal grandparents, John O. and Mary MacNeil and paternal grandparents, Russell and Susan Campbell. Colleen devoted her entire adult life to nursing, having worked as an RN for 33 years. After her graduation from The Halifax Infirmary, she began her career in Prince Rupert, B.C. and Burnaby, B.C., where she worked for 10 years. After that she moved to Hamilton, Ont. where she worked for 23 years at Hamilton General Hospital. She worked up until 2009 when her cancer returned for a second time. When Colleen's illness returned her desire was to move back to her beloved Cape Breton. In May 2011 she took up residence in River Ryan. Upon her return to Cape Breton, she greatly enjoyed her drives along the shore with her sisters and her opportunity to be near the ocean. She loved the Cape Breton culture and music and in June she was able to attend the Cape Breton Summertime Revue. In her last week she went to the ocean in New Victoria with her brother, Blaise and at the time her life had truly come full circle. There will be no visitation. By request Colleen has donated her body to the Faculty of Medicine - Department of Anatomy at Dalhousie University. There will be a memorial mass to celebrate Colleen's life at the Parish of St. Leonard (Mount Carmel) with Fr. Ray Huntley on Wednesday, Aug. 10 at 10 a.m. with a reception to follow at St. Leonard's Hall, Convent Street. Donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. The Campbell motto states: Ne Obliviscaris which means - Forget Not. Colleen will never be forgotten by her brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, special friend, Pat Shipley, large extended family and by the many people she cared for during her life.
