Cape Breton Deaths August 16, 2011 Tuesday There are 2 obituaries published for today Michael John Kuna Beverly (Muise) Hasiuk ******************************************************************************************************* Michael John Kuna Born In: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away In: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away On: 15/08/2011 The family is deeply saddened to announce the passing of their father, Michael John Kuna on Aug. 15, 2011, at the Glace Bay Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Josef and Miria (Boszniak) Kuna. Mike retired as a coal miner after 40 years of service. He worked in No. 2, 20 , 26 and Phalen collieries. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, spending all of his spare time at his log cabin "The Big Barren Lodge" at Big Glen. Visitors at his house often left with fresh eggs, trout, deer roast, duck or lobster as his generosity knew no bounds. Volunteer work included Fish and Game, Glace Bay Minor Hockey, Little League baseball, past-president of the Ukrainian Catholic Men's Club. He was also honoured as a blood donor by the Red Cross (over 50 times). He is survived by his sons, Michael (Laurel), Paul, John Robert (Vangi); daughter, Joanne; one sister, Anne Delicaet; grandchildren, Paul Joe, Mary, Aaron, Jane Kuna, Robbie and Colleen White. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife, Shirley, sister, Lena Perehiniak and brothers, Michael and Ludwig, in infancy. Mike will also be missed by his good and dear friend Bruce Callahan, who was always there for him. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 17 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Curry's Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, Aug. 18 at 11 a.m. in St. Leo's Church with Rev. Leo Boone officiating. Condolences may be sent to the family at jmcurry@ns.sympatico.ca. ************************************ Beverly (Muise) Hasiuk Born In: Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Born On: 04/09/1943 Passed Away In: Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away On: 12/08/2011 It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, Beverly Hasiuk on Friday, Aug. 12, 2011, at the Halifax Infirmary, with her sons at her side. Beverly was born in Sydney on Sept. 4, 1943, and was the daughter of the late Wilfred and Violet Muise. Beverly is survived by her sons, Todd Schmitt (Felicia) and Stephen (Tracey), both of Sydney. She is also survived by the love of her life, her grandson, Todd. Beverly will also be remembered by grandchildren, Kevin, Macey and Jeremy, who will never forget the care she gave them. Beverly is survived by her brothers, Brian (Cynthia), David (Sandra), Terry (Joanne) and Kenny; her sisters, Pam, Louise, Darlene MacPhee and Debbie (Bernie Campbell); as well as many loved nieces and nephews. Bev was predeceased by her husband, Steve Hasiuk, her sisters, Brenda Litowski and Judy Flynn, one brother, Brian in infancy. Cremation has taken place. There will be a funeral mass 11 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011, at Holy Redeemer parish, Whitney Pier. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Diabetes Association. Bev was a fiercely independent lady, who fought long and hard against the body she was given. "Her pain was felt throughout the land, to feel true misery is impossible to stand. We pray that when her hurting stops, we'll be able to see the angel's teardrops."
