Born in Harbour Round, Nfld., he arrived in Glace Bay, Cape Breton, at the age of two years. He was the son of the late James and Elizabeth (Mansefield) Lannon. He worked for 45 years at No. 20 Colliery in Glace Bay. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Ned was a loving son, husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather. His entire family was his pride and joy. During his latter years, he was a faithful visitor to many hospitals and guest homes to cheer up many of his senior friends. He was a member of St. Anne's Church where he served as hospitality minister for many years. Ned is survived by sons, Jim, Jack, Tom, Glace Bay, Al (Gemma), Truro, N.S., and daughter, Eileen (Keith) Oldford, Glace Bay; grandchildren, Jim, Glen, Carla, Glen, Lana and Jason (Jo-Ann), who are expecting; great-grandchildren, Michael, Caden, Cheyenne, Kristen, MacKenzie, Talal and Jessica; several nieces, nephews; brother, Tom and sister, Jeanette. Ned was predeceased by his loving wife, Catherine (O'Donnell), son, Rev. Fr. Joseph Patrick and in infancy, daughter, Mary Kay, brothers, Tony, Jim, sisters, Nellie, Josie, Pat, Irene and Joan. Born in New Waterford she was the daughter of the late Harold and Tena (Chiasson) Hawley. She was a member of St. Leonard's Parish, formerly Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Patsy attended Mount Carmel High School and then went on to graduate from New Waterford School of Nursing in 1969. She began her career in St. Joseph's Hospital, Glace Bay followed by a short time working in Point Edward Hospital. After 25 years of service, she retired from Nova Scotia Public Health in 1999. Patsy was always ready to lend a hand to those in need, donating financially to various causes and could regularly be found in the kitchen cooking up a meal for the family she loved so much. She was a great support to many people around her and always willing to lend an ear or hold a hand. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She will be sadly missed by her husband and best friend Raymond MacIsaac; daughter Raylene (Shannon) MacLeod; brother Greg (Cathy) Hawley and her precious grandchildren Andrew MacIsaac and Erynn MacLeod. Born in, Dunvegan, Inverness County, she was the daughter of the late Donald Joseph MacLeod and Mary Isabel (Collins) MacLeod. Sister MacLeod made her religious profession in the Congregation of Notre Dame on January 12, 1938. Sister Anne taught in various schools in the Sydney area, including Holy Angels and Constantine schools. She also taught at Notre Dame Convent, Sydney Mines and St. Martin's Convent, New Victoria, as well as years spent in Iona, Inverness, New Glasgow, Mabou, Port Hood and Pictou. After retiring from teaching, Sister moved to St. Theresa Convent where she was involved with the Literacy Reading Program in the area. Sister's last place of residence was at the CND Health Care Center, Sydney. Sister Anne is survived by two sisters, Margaret MacLellan, New Waterford, and Catherine Grant, Halifax and one brother, Reverend Father Angus J. MacLeod, Sydney. Besides her parents, Sister was predeceased by one sister, Aurelia, Edmonton, and brothers, Rev. Father Colonel, Rod, Collins, Alex, J.D., Donald and Finlay. Elaine passed away peacefully in Halifax on Nov. 23, 2010. The eldest daughter of William J. 'Bill' and Dorothy Stephens, Elaine had fond memories of growing up in Sydney before moving to the United States and then settling in Halifax where she lived most of her life. She was predeceased by an infant daughter, Dorothy; son, Glen MacDonald; parents, Bill and Dorothy; sister, Faye Porter and husband John Lilly. Elaine is survived by daughter, Phyllis 'Bipsy' MacDonald and her children, Patrick and Julia, and by daughter Brenda MacDonald and her daughters, Chelsey and Leigha, all residing in British Columbia. She is also survived by her brother, Jack (Ameta) Stephens, Baddeck; her sister, Diane Stephens, Sydney and her great-grandson, Michael, British Columbia, whom she cherished. She will be missed by family members and close friends both in Sydney and Halifax. Elaine worked for many years as a secretary for the teamsters union in Halifax. Her jovial nature and sharp sense of humour are remembered by many of her co-workers. She always took great pleasure in sharing a laugh with family and longtime friends. Elaine enjoyed reading and was an avid fan of movies and music. She enjoyed time spent in the kitchen and was known to share her cooking with family and friends. True to her love of animals, Elaine was a constant supporter of animal shelters. It was Elaine's preference that her remembrance be honoured personally by those who knew her. In July, they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary with friends and colleagues from the many groups and projects that were part of her very active life, St. Gerard's Guild (president), CWL (50 year member), Holy Redeemer Choir, Brownies (brown owl), Don Bosco Home and School Association (president). Among her outreach endeavors were Holy Redeemer Camp, Welcome Wagon, canvasser for several organizations and chaperone for high school attendees at Expo'67, Montreal. As she once said, she had a real passion for her home, where her fine taste was always evident. She still had time for her skating, community exercise program and her painting. She approached everything with intensity and passion. Born in Avondale, Nfld., Jennie was the daughter of the late Thomas and Bridgit (Parsley) Baker. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Archie Clarke; two daughters, Karen Campbell (Steve), Moncton, N.B. and Janet Porter (Jack), Sydney; one son, Wayne (Betty), Sydney. Nov. 30, 2010 at the Glace Bay Hospital surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was employed at one time with the General Instruments Plant, Sydney & Gillis' Market in Glace Bay. Later on he worked for the DEVCO coal division until its closing. Fishing became part of his life; a job he truly enjoyed. He loved to hunt, 4-wheel or just spend time in the back yard with family and his two dogs, Sparky & Daisey. Spending time with his wife Wendy and family were important, whether it be going to the woods with son Jeff or taking Wendy to a baseball field or hockey rink to watch Ainslie perform. Born in 1914 in Antigonish, N.S., he was the son of the late Frank and Katherine (MacDonald) Murray (Carmichael). Gar was a member of St. Theresa's Parish. He graduated from Sydney Academy in 1932 and then worked in the Open hearth at the Sydney Steel Plant retiring in 1978. He was an honorary member of the Steelworkers and Sydney Pensioners club. An avid fisherman, Gar played rugby and baseball in his earlier years and is the last surviving member of the 1938 Glace Bay Miners Senior hockey team, winners of the Cape Breton Senior League and holders of the Halifax Herald Trophy. He is survived by his daughters, Murdo (Donnie MacIsaac), Antigonish, Carol (Charlie Crowe) Sydney; sons, Frank (Brenda), Hamilton, Robert (Miriam), Bedford, Keith (Sharon), Bedford; stepbrother, Elgie Carmichael, Dartmouth; companion, Bertha Farrell; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Born in Halifax, DJ was the beloved son of Leslie Shanahan and Cameron MacNeil and big brother to his sister, Catherine, whom he adored. He was the grandson of Nilda and Jimmy Shanahan, Sydney, Marguerite MacNeil, Halifax and the late Donald C MacNeil, Q.C., Sydney. DJ was very close to his extended family, Barbara Jo Robinson (Bill), Margo MacNeil (Seamus McGuinness), Marylee Brittain (Rod) Louise Biechele, Marlene Biechele, great-aunt, Mia Schima and his cousins Kristi-Jo and Billy Robinson and Connor McGuinness. While DJ played in many sports, his passion was football. He cherished his time as quarterback for the Halifax West Warriors. Sports provided him with many lasting friendships over the years and he will be fondly remembered by his teammates. His kind and generous nature and sense of humour will be missed by all who knew him. DJ was admired for his determination and courage in overcoming challenging situations in sports and in life. His kind heart made him a champion of the underdog. DJ was attending Robert Land Academy in Ontario where he continued to enjoy his sports and academics.
