Campbell ******************************************************************************************************* Ronald William Jude McNeil Born in: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 11/12/2010 Ronnie MacNeil, 73, of 33 Steele's Hill, Glace Bay, and a former resident of 90 3rd Street in the hub, passed away Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, at his residence. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Daniel and Rose (Boone) MacNeil. Ronnie was a member of St. John's Church, Glace Bay. He was a coal miner by trade. Ronnie loved to play darts and would travel to Sydney to shoot at the French Club; he also loved going for drives in his van which never failed to stop at Tim Hortons; but mostly, Ronnie will be remembered for his kind and generous nature. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Margaret (Boutilier) MacNeil; his daughters, Lisa (Danny), with whom he resided, Joanne MacNeil, British Columbia; son, Troy MacNeil, Alberta; stepdaughters, Linda and Sylvia Pittman, Glace Bay; stepson, Greg Pittman, New Brunswick; and a brother, Sandy MacNeil, Westmount. Also surviving are grandchildren, Danette (Tom), whom he raised as his own child, Amanda and Greg Chislett, Jean Ann, Michelle, Bernice, Vanessa, Danielle; great-grandchildren, Nicole, Stephen, Christina, Ashley, Tyler, Rebecca Lynn and Charleigh. Ronnie was predeceased by brothers, Danny, Joe, Jim and two sisters, Patricia and Margie. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home,16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass, officiated by Rev. Leo Boone is Thursday, 11 a.m. in St. John's Church. Cremation to follow with interment at a later date. Special thank you to New Waterford Homecare, especially Billie Gracie for his kindness and compassion, you went above and beyond. Your great sense of humour could always put a smile on Dad's face. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late John and Jessie (MacLean) Gallant. Evie was active in the choir and altar society at St. Joseph's Church, Reserve Mines. She was employed at the post office in Reserve for over 35 years. Evelyn was a very gracious and generous lady who loved children and animals. She was also a very social and community-minded person; always seen with a smile on her face. Evie will be sadly missed by all. She is survived by her brother, Wendell Gallant, Dartmouth; sister, Josie (Rannie) Ellsworth, Westmount; nieces, Tanya (Vaughn) Poirier and their children, Katie and Joey, Reserve Mines, Andrea, and her son, Avery, Maine, and Renee, Calgary. Evie will be sadly missed by her inlaws, the Syms Family. Evelyn was predeceased by her husband, Gerald 'Lindy' Syms in 2007, brother, Joe, sisters, Dorothy 'Dot,' Adline, Winnie and Muriel. A private visitation will be held at the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay. The funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. in St. Joseph's Church, Reserve Mines, with Rev. Daniel Boudreau officiating. Reception to follow in the parish hall. Interment will be held in the parish cemetery. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Bridget (Finnell) Kane. Gertrude had strong faith in her religion and was a member of St. John's Church, Glace Bay. At one time she was employed in the house keeping department at St. Joseph's Hospital, Glace Bay. She was a very quite lady who took great comfort in the gospel readings. Gertrude is survived by her son, Danny MacEachern and his companion, Joan, Glace Bay. She was predeceased by her first husband, Kern Jessome and her second common law husband, Simon MacEachern. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home in Glace Bay. The funeral mass, officiated by Rev. Leo Boone is Tuesday at 11 a.m. in St. John's Church followed by interment in the parish cemetery. Online condolences to the family can be expressed at www.vjmcgillivray.ca. ***************************************************** Joan (MacDonald) Sharpe Born in: Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: Truro, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 10/12/2010 In the early morning of Dec. 10, 2010, an earthly angel was called to heaven. It is with great sadness that the family of Joan (MacDonald) Sharpe announces her death at the Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born in Sydney, she was a daughter of the late Hughie Dan and Agnes Elizabeth (Lewis) MacDonald. Joan was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Mom and her sisters, Catherine and Camella, lost their mother to cancer, as little girls. Each sister was given a wonderful home in their extended family of relatives, who adored them. Mom was brought up in Reserve, C.B., by her maternal uncle, the late Adam Lewis and his wife the late Adelaide (Lewis) Lewis. Not only was she loved by her special parents, but also her special brother and sister, the late Worrell (Emma) Lewis and the late Avice (Donald) Matheson. Joan worked at F.W. Woolworths for 23 years. She was involved in many volunteer organizations. She was a member of the Colchester Regional Hospital Auxiliary; volunteered in the Colchester Regional Hospital Coffee Shop; was a member of Cedar Stone Enhanced Care Facility Family Council and loved volunteering at Cedar Stone Enhanced Care Facility. She was a member of St. John's Princess Mary Guild and Hope Chest. Joan played bridge with the same group of wonderful 'Bridge Club Ladies' for 40 years. She was beloved by all who had the honour and privilege of knowing her. Joan's hospitality and noble Christian charity knew no bounds. She was not only an adored mother to all her children and grandchildren but was loved by countless others who, in her life time she had befriended. Joan's family was her pride and joy of her life. She is survived by her seven children, Joanne Ritcey (Greg Wilson), Truro, Sherene Sharpe, Bridgewater, Pamela Sharpe, Halifax, Murray 'Buddy' Sharpe, Edmonton, Melinda (Kirk) Miller, Truro, Adam (Jackie Penner), Edmonton, and Kirby Sharpe, Edmonton. Her grandchildren, Lisa (Nate Haddon), Jennifer, Ryan Ritcey, Patrick Hickey, Benjamin Sharpe, Trish (McNutt) Leblanc, Kennedy Miller and Steven Penner. Joan is also survived by her brother, Adam (Lois) Lewis, Sydney, and sister, Joyce (Don) Brown, Kanata, Ont., and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mom was predeceased by her loving husband of 55 years, Murray 'Buddy' Sharpe, sisters, Catherine MacNeil, Camella Hood, and son-in-law, Kirk Ritcey. The family wishes to thank Dr. Neil Bower, the ICU medical/nursing staff and the medical/nursing staff of 3 North for their care, concern and kindness for our mother. Online condolences may be made at www.colchestercommunity.com. ******************************************************* John 'Theodore' Marsh Born in: Mill Creek, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: Mill Creek, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 11/12/2010 It is with great sadness that we the family announce the sudden passing of our dear father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle, John Theodore Marsh, on Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney. Born in Mill Creek, John was the son of the late John and Emma Marsh. He was a lifelong parishioner of St. Joseph Church in Bras d'Or. John was a proud veteran of the Second World War. He served in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He worked many years in the coal mines, Princess Colliery and the Franklin mine. He enjoyed spending his spare time gardening. He took great pride in his vegetable and flower gardens. He will be fondly remembered for telling jokes, stories of the good old days, and his experiences of the Second World War. John is survived by his two daughters, Greta (Carl Hillier), Anne Cox, both of North Sydney; his sisters, Emmaline Turner, Mill Creek, Margaret Harrington of Ontario; brothers, Sylvester (Ella Mae) and Peter (Betty), both of Mill Creek, Louie (Norma) of Little Pond. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren, Tammy, Paula, Jennifer, Darryl and Billy-Joe, and his great-grandchildren, Aaron, Michael Mason, Kendra and Courtney. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 64 years, Mary Olive (Pero), his son, Leonard, two grandchildren, Mary Louise, David Hillier, by sisters, Marcella, Mary, Regis, Evelyn, Marie and brothers, Wilfred, James, Gerald, Tommy and Lawrence. Special thanks to Betty, Donald, Teddy and Keith for their lifelong friendship with our dad. Thank you as well to Dr. Knott and the staff at the Northside General Hospital. Campbell Born in: Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada Passed away on: 11/12/2010 Robert 'Bob' D. Campbell, 78, of Moncton, passed away peacefully at the Moncton Hospital on Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010. Born in Sydney, N.S., he was the son of the late John and Margaret (Dwyer) Campbell. Bob was retired from the Federal Public Service (Department of Indian Affairs) with 32 years service and attended St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church. Bob enjoyed music, especially singing and playing the guitar, was an avid golfer at Magnetic Hill Golf and Country Club and had a keen interest for reading about history. He and Marie enjoyed travelling to Florida for 17 years (golfing), socializing with his friends and spending precious time with his family and grandkids. Bob will be sadly missed by his wife of over 52 years, Marie (Aucoin) Campbell; his children, Mike Campbell, Halifax, N.S., Pat Campbell (Gerard), Montreal, Que., Shauna Scott (John), Saint John, N.B., Kim MacMillan (Dave), Charlottetown, PEI, Dan Campbell (Ailish), Ottawa, Ont., Glen Campbell, Halifax, N.S.; his precious grandchildren, Ryan, Nick, Luke, Jenna, Julien, Brigitte, Matt, Jared, Brent, Justin, Chris, Rob, Mark, Stephen, Lochlan and Vivian; sisters, Keady Morrison, Fran Mackinnon (John), Ethel Turner, Regis Wheatley, Norah Aucoin (Gordon), Lois Haaheim (Don), Cata Clutterham (Don) and Carmel Kehler (Bill), all of British Columbia; brother, Chas (Minnie), Sydney, N.S.; several nieces and nephews.
