Published in the Vancouver Sun and/or The Province on 12/11/2010 Jessie Elliot ELLIOT, Jessie Kathryn It is with great love we acknowledge a life well-lived and announce the passage of our beloved mother, Jessie Kathryn Elliot. "Kaye" was born in Inverness, Nova Scotia in 1915 to parents Duncan Gerald MacDonald and Georgina Goode Gray. Kaye was proud of her Cape Breton roots and possessed many of the qualities for which Cape Bretonners are famous: kind, loving, eternally cheerful and always thinking how she could help someone else. People wondered how Kaye could be so nice all the time. But there was nothing phony about it - it was the way she was. Those who knew her soon discovered that underneath the cheery exterior Kaye was strong as steel and the ultimate survivor. She was all about getting the job done and living life to the fullest - however long that may be. Kaye is predeceased by her sisters Margaret Helen (Peggy) MacDonald and Vivian Gray Fitzpatrick (nee MacDonald) and her brother John Clarence MacDonald. Kaye is survived by her brother-in-law Bill Elliot and wife Marg of Vancouver. In 1943 Kaye married the man who would be the love of her life, Ottowell Blake Elliot (predeceased). After their marriage in Sydney, Nova Scotia they came west to begin a new life in BC, Kaye demonstrating great courage to leave her Cape Breton home and train across a continent. "OB" became a highly respected educator and school principal in New Westminster for 43 years. Building a home on an acre of land in Coquitlam, Kaye and OB provided an idyllic childhood for their 4 children, Bill Elliot, Vivian Elliot, Helen Erlendson (nee Elliot) and Jim Elliot. Kaye and OB always put family first, ahead of their own material needs. They were additionally blessed to have Sonya Schneider and Trevor Erlendson join the family as life-partners to Bill and Helen respectively. Kaye was a proud grandmother to Christina Elliot, Erin Elliot, Melissa Erlendson, Amanda Erlendson and Chris Atkins. Like OB, Kaye loved the energy, hopes and dreams of the young, especially her own grandchildren. One of Kaye's lifelong passions was her involvement with the P.E.O. Sisterhood, a philanthropic educational organization dedicated to the advancement of young women. She was honoured with her 50-year gold-star PEO pin in 1995. A private interment will be followed by a public Celebration of Kaye's life on Monday, January 17, 2011, 2 p.m. at Como Lake United Church, 535 Marmont Street, Coquitlam B.C. In lieu of flowers a donation in Kaye's name to the Weatherby Pavilion at Peace Arch Hospital would be greatly appreciated.
