James Simm Catherine 'Katie' Burke Sarah 'Sadie' (Lamie) MacNeil Kenneth Hammood Keith Stewart Joe MacDonald Angus Reid ******************************************************************************************************* James Simm Born in: Florence, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: Florence, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 08/12/2010 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father and grandfather, James Henry Simm, on Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2010, at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney. A lifelong resident of Florence, James was the son of Claire (Hale) and Ernest Jubilee Simm. He attended Wilson United Church and was a member of the Royal Oak Lodge No. 85 and the Bras d'Or Seniors & Pensioners Club. James was a lobster fisherman, a fireman on the lake boats, and he owned & operated a barbershop and a convenience store in Florence for many years. He was a loving, gentle, family man who loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hiking and fishing, and especially loved spending time at his summer cabin in Aberdeen with his children and grandchildren. In recent years, James was adored by his great-grandchildren and always had a treat waiting for them when they went to visit. James was an independent thinker and a problem-solver who adhered to his own set of beliefs and principals. He loved to debate many topics, ever respectful to the opinions of others. He enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy every evening. He loved to dance and was a faithful Toronto Maple Leafs fan. Besides his parents, James was predeceased by his wife, Gale Simm, his companion, Helene MacLellan, his daughter-in-law, Dale Simm, and his brothers Darwin Simm and Ernest Simm. James is survived by his four loving sons, Brian (Nora), Sault Ste. Marie, Rick, Florence, Jamie (Cindy), Stouffville, and Laurie, Aberdeen. He leaves behind his loving grandchildren, Stacey, Krista, Rick Jr., Karen, Jody, Keri, Erin, Meaghan, David, and Shane, and their spouses. 'Grampy' will be sadly missed by his great-grandchildren, Austen, Madelyn, Kelly, Ryan, Ailish, Dalen, Russy, Danielle, Carter, Olivia, Emma, Lindsie, Caroline, and Shane Jr. James is also survived by his sister, Rosina Gallop, Florida, and by Helene's large and loving family, the Walkers and MacLellans. In accordance with James' wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. A service to honor James' life will be held at Wilson United Church in Florence on Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010 at 2 p.m., with Norma Mills, DLM officiating. Burial at Brookside Cemetery. Born in Dominion, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Browner and Anne Margaret MacNeil. She is survived by her children, Charles (Janet), Cole Harbour; Michael (Eileen), Louisbourg; Myles (Jayne), Sydney; and Cathie (Donald) MacLeod, Catalone; sisters, Camilla Peck, Sydney, Sadie Hines, Dartmouth, Mary Gouthro, Regis Winstanley, both of Glace Bay, and Connie Browner, Sudbury. She will also be lovingly missed by grandchildren Nicole, Janine, Caitlin, Jessalyn, Alexandra, Maire, Jesse and her great granddaughter Anna. She was predeceased by her husband Alexander Burke; brothers, Alexander, Ignatius, and Myles. She attended St. Martha's in Antigonish before moving to Louisbourg where she was a life member of the Stella Maris CWL. Katie was caring, kind and thoughtful. Her happiest moments were when friends and family were gathered around her table sharing one of the many meals she prepared. Visitation will be held Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010 at the S.W. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of... ****************************************************** Sarah 'Sadie' (Lamie) MacNeil Born in: North Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 28/02/1928 It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear mother and grandmother, Sadie MacNeil, on Dec. 8, 2010, at Northside General Hospital. Born in North Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Joseph and Mary Ellen (MacNeil) Lamie. She was a member of St. Pius X parish, Sydney Mines. Sadie loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and she thoroughly enjoyed family gatherings. Sadie is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Russell. She will be sadly missed by her sons, Thomas (Jessie), Donald (Barbara) and Russell (Laurie) and her daughters, Mary Murphy and Bernadette (Robert) Lovell. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Bernadette (Charlie) Johnston, John Murphy, Jillian and Kayla-Beth MacNeil, Jeff and Amy MacNeil, Jeremy and Amber Lovell, Erin and Kristin MacNeil and two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Nicolas Johnston. She was predeceased by brothers, Thomas (Buddy), Leo, John, Hugh (in infancy) and sisters, Marie and Dodie (Sr. Josephine). Visitation will take place at J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, Main Street, Sydney Mines, on Friday, December 10, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral mass celebrating her life will take place Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Pius X Church, Sydney Mines, with Fr. Born in Halifax, Kenny was the son of the late Danny and Muriel (Ralph) Hamood of Glace Bay. Kenny was an electrician by trade for the past 22 years and was a member of IBEW in Sydney. Kenny was a family man in every other sense. He also had a love of music that spanned his entire live. He passed this on to his girls. Kenny will forever be loved and missed by his wife of 33 years, Gail (Boudreau); daughters, Kendal (Todd), Crystal (J.D.) and the lights of his life, his cherished grandchildren, Connor, Maya and Dominic; special niece, Brenda Hamood (Hurley); sisters, Marsha Wood (Lewis), Marg Carroll (Tom); brother, Everett, Aunt Mary Hamood; many nieces and nephews and his large extended family on the Boudreau side. Besides his parents, Kenny was predeceased by his brothers, Danny, Wishy; nephew, Johnny Hurley; niece, Tanya Carroll and beloved pet, Kuma. In honouring Kenny wishes, cremation has taken place. Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late John and Elizabeth (Cameron) Stewart. Keith was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church and the Riverview Y's Mens Club. He was retired from Devco. Surviving are his sons, Alan (Louise), Coxheath and David (Susan), Sackville, N.B.; grandchildren, Tracy (Greg), Melanie (Jeff) Slipp, Keith (Suzanne), Austin (Emily) and Anne; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Keith was predeceased by his wife, Thelma (July 2009) and sisters, Ruth, Myrtle and Joanne. Dear brother of Margaret Rose Campbell of Catalone, Janie Perry, Sydney and Dolly (Greg) Currie, Petawawa, Ont. Predeceased by his parents, Jessie and Ronald MacDonald; siblings, Mary Ann MacIsaac, Tom, Archie, Albert and Ronnie MacDonald, Catherine Fields and Tena Graham. Cremation has taken place. Interment will be held in Main-A-Dieu in the summer of 2011. ******************************************************* Angus Reid Born in: Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: Lakefield, Ontario, Canada Passed away on: 29/11/2010 Peacefully, with his family by his side, in hospital, Perth, on the evening of Monday, Nov. 29, 2010, in his 67th year. Angus Reid, born in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia on Dec. 17, 1943. Angus was the dear son of the late Angus Norman MacDonald, and Hilda Doyle. Beloved husband for over 51 glorious years to Melvina Reid, (née Parsons), of Lakefield. Cherished father of David (Linda) Reid and Deborah (Scott) Reid, both of Toronto, Carol Anne Newman, of Peterborough and Linda (Tom) Reid, of Perth. Angus was the proud and thankful grandfather of eight and great-grandfather of six grandchildren. He will be sadly and sorely missed by all of his siblings, his nieces and his nephews. Angus was well respected for his attention to detail and his craftsmanship in his many years as an auto body specialist for Belmont Chev-Olds. In addition to his work, Angus was known as a consistent Standard-Bred Jockey, and he developed quite a name for himself in the horse-racing circles in Ontario and beyond. The discipline Angus displayed was due in a large extent to his many years of tough mental conditioning and physical training in Tae-Kwon-Do, a sport Angus excelled in, to the rank of Black Belt, 6th Degree. A consummate family man, above all, Angus cherished every moment with his loving family. To honour Angus and his philosophy, there will be no visitation at the funeral home. Cremation has taken place, with an interment of ashes to take place in Lakefield, some time in the spring of 2011. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be so greatly appreciated.
