Teresa 'Sharkey' MacDonald Donald Garland John Griffiths ******************************************************************************************************* Teresa 'Sharkey' MacDonald Born in: New Waterford, Nova Scotia, Canada Born on: 09/08/1927 Passed away in: New Waterford, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 28/12/2010 "The finger of God touched her and she slept" It is with sorrowful hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our mother, Teresa 'Sharkey' MacDonald on Dec. 28, 2010, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in New Waterford, Aug. 9, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Neil and Mary (Gillis) MacKinnon. Teresa was married to Charles 'Sharkey' MacDonald for 61 years; he preceded her on Aug. 29, 2010. Left to mourn are four children, Bernie (Donna), Dartmouth, Barbara (Wayne) Crowe, New Waterford, Ronnie (Sandra), Coquitlam, B.C., and Paul (Natalie), St. Albert, Alta.; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews as well as having a special loving bond with Tracy, Sandra and Frank. Teresa was a lifelong resident of New Waterford and a very social person. She was a member of the Parish Church of St. Leonard and for years an active member of the Mount Carmel CWL. She was a very political person (red being her favourite colour) and an active and supportive member of the Liberal party. She worked for a number of years at the Pharmasave Drug Store. Teresa and Sharkey were very active in community events especially those connected with the Legion. They were both avid sports fans who enjoyed the Blue Jays and Toronto Maple Leafs as well as great followers of the Screaming Eagles. She loved to mix business with pleasure as every trip to town (and there were many) was turned into a social event where she greeted and caught up on the news with everyone she met. She was renowned for her baking and brought a pan of squares to every shower she attended. As a MacKinnon family tradition she loved cards, especially tarabish - and "loved to win." Besides Sharkey and her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Anna, Flora, brothers, Henry, Lawrence and Bernie. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Visitation for Teresa will be held Thursday evening, Dec. 30, 2010, from 7-9 p.m. and Friday afternoon from 2-5 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday, Jan. 1, 2011 at 2 p.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Doug MacDonald officiating. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the Carmel Centre. The KOC will assemble for a prayer service at the funeral home on Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. Donations in her memory may be made to ICU and CCU of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital or a charity of one's choice.
