Sister Sarah Gallant Jane St. John Crawley, RN Infant Tristan Cole (Conrad) Matthews Marie Pettipas Americo David (Rick) Giacomini John Willie Fraser Ethel Kennedy Lillian MacPherson Douglas Joseph MacDonald ******************************************************************************************************* Sister Sarah Gallant Born in: Tracadie, Antigonish Co, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: Antigonish, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 26/12/2010 Sister Sarah Gallant, formerly Sister Marie Joseph, 86, a Sister of St. Martha of Antigonish, died at Bethany, motherhouse on Sunday, Dec. 26, 2010, in the 67th year of her religious life. Born in Tracadie, Antigonish Co., N.S., and a former resident of Little Lorraine, C.B., Sister Sarah was one of seven children of the late James and Nellie (Riley) Gallant. Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Martha on Aug. 15, 1942, pronounced her first vows on Aug. 14, 1944, and her perpetual profession of vows on Aug. 15, 1949. After her profession of vows, Sister spent most of her life in ministry as homemaker in institutions operated by the congregation and in convents in Eastern and Western Canada. In Nova Scotia, Sister Sarah served at Little Flower Institute in Sydney, St. Peter's Convent in Ingonish, St. Theresa's Convent in Margaree Forks, Star of the Sea Convent in Canso, Teachers' Residence in Eskasoni, St. Anne's Convent in Guysborough, St. Joseph's Convent in Dingwall, St. Rita Convent in Sydney and at Bethany Retreat Center in Antigonish. In Alberta, while at St. Alphonsus Convent in Blairmore and Mount Carmel Convent in Canmore, she taught kindergarten and did parish work. She served also at St. Augustine's Seminary, Scarborough, Ont. Sister Sarah obtained a diploma for kindergarten teaching from the Canadian Kindergarten Institute, Winnipeg. She is survived by her sister, Mary Connolly, Kitchener, Ont.; and two brothers, Gerald, Little Lorraine, C.B., and James of Dartmouth, N.S. Besides her parents, Sister Sarah was predeceased by three sisters, Monica Lahey, Anna Campbell and Margaret Houle. The remains will be resting at Bethany, beginning Tuesday, Dec. 28 at 1:15 p.m., where a Celebration of Vigil will be held on the same evening at 7:30 p.m. Liturgy of Christian Burial will take place Wednesday, Dec. 29 at 2:30 p.m. in Bethany Chapel. Online condolences to www.clcurry.com ************************************************ Jane St. John Crawley, RN Passed away in: Westmount, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 24/12/2010 It is with great sadness that we the family announce the passing of Jane Crawley, 47, of Westmount. She passed away peacefully on Christmas Eve after a courageous three-year battle with cancer, in the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was a daughter of Walter and Pat Crawley of Westmount. After graduating from Riverview High School she attended the Cape Breton Business College, worked for 13 years at Sobeys in Sydney River and followed her passion and entered the nursing profession in 1995. She later became a CCN specializing in cardiovascular care. Jane was known for her compassion and kind heart by her many patients. Jane is survived by her loving son, Ryan (Laura) Crawley; sisters, Dodie (Ray) March and Cathy Mikkelsen; brothers, Michael and Albert (Angie) Crawley; as well as several cousins, nieces, nephews, co-workers and dearest friends. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28 in T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29 in Holy Rosary Church, Rev. Douglas Murphy officiating. Predeceased by her husband the late Frank Pettipas. Loving mother of Kimberley and her husband Russell. Proud grandmother of Jason and Matthew. She will be lovingly remembered by her brother, Bill; sister, Key (the late George), Helen (Bob) and brother, Ed (Marlene). Predeceased by her parents, William and Hazel McGovern, brother, Albert and sister-in-law, Mary. Marie will be fondly remembered and missed by many nieces, nephews and friends. He passed away Saturday, Dec. 25, 2010, at home with his beloved and devoted wife and children by his side after a four-year courageous battle with cancer. Born in Sydney, he was the son of Irma and the late Americo 'Porky' Giacomini. He joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1964, where he travelled and made long lasting friendships along the way. He returned home to Cape Breton in 1992 and retired from the military in 2004. Rick was a member of the Ashby Legion. He was known for his great sense of humour and wittiness, as well as lending a helping hand to others. Rick was happiest when he was spending time with his family and friends, working in his garden, or fixing and building things in his garage. Besides his mother, he is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Sharon Ann (Aboud), who was always by his side; daughter, Karen (Frank) Zochil, Ontario; son, David (Lisa), Alberta. Rick also leaves behind what were his most precious gifts, his two grandchildren, Alexander and Olivia Zochil, whom he loved very dearly; sisters, Enis (Gordie) Moss, Carolyn (Wayne) Cann, Maria (Buddy MacLean), all of Sydney; brothers, Nick (Dorothy), Ontario, and Ron, Sydney. As per Rick's wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 29 at Our Lady of Fatima Church. Fr. Born in Bras d'Or, Dec. 3, 1935, he was the last remaining son of the late Willie R. and Rachel Fraser. Dad was the Captain and proud owner of the W.R. Fraser 1, he was a lifelong fisherman and loved being on the water. Dad could turn his hand at almost anything and had many talents. He loved fiddle music, which he listened to often. He is greatly loved and will be greatly missed by his surviving family and many friends. Surviving is his son, Joey (Laura Lee), Point Aconi; his daughters, Joanne (Paul) Lynk, Sydney, Paula (Blaise), Little Pond, Judy (Diane), St. John's, N.L.; grandchildren, Melissa, Kate, Jonathan, Josh, Paul; and his sister, Sally (Peter) Mansfield, Bras d'Or; and many nieces and nephews. John Willie was predeceased by his loving wife, Margaret (Cook) Fraser in 2005, brothers, Russell, Rannie (his twin), Duel, Buddy and Johnny, sisters, Mary, Theresa, Betty and Anne. We the family would like to send a special thank you out to the Florence Fire Department and the EMS responders for their great effort in trying to help our dad. Born in Port Aux Basques, N.L., she was the daughter of the late James and Lena (Scott) Hinks. Lillian's greatest joy was her family. Lillian was a long time employee of Woolco, attended Westmount United Church, UCW, and the Riverdale Senior's Club. She leaves to mourn daughters, Norma Clarke, Sydney, Sharon MacPherson, Sydney, Gail (Malcolm) Hickey, Saint John, N.B., Carla Jackson, Sydney; a son, Harold (Hamidah) MacPherson, Malaysia. She also leaves behind seven grandsons, five granddaughters and seven great-grandchildren.
