She fought a dignified and courageous battle with cancer. She was the eldest child of the late Frank and Elizabeth Maud (Oliver) Dawe, Sydney. Mom loved the simple pleasures in life, her opera music, dancing the Lebanese dabke in her younger days, a good game of tarabish, especially with her sons-in-law and preparing and serving her beloved Lebanese food. Mom was a longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima parish, Sydney River, and more recently, a parishioner of St. Joseph's Church, Sydney. Mom was a devoted sister, mother, mother-in-law and grandmother. She always put the well being of her family before herself. She was a hardworker both in her home and outside her home. She worked for over 30 years at Woolco, Sydney River, and at Colpitts the Stationer, Moncton, N.B. Frances is survived by her three daughters, Sharon (Ronald) Stoffer, Lakeland, Fla., Mary Louise (Edward) Belliveau, Shediac, N.B., and Katherine (Gerald) Sheppard, Howie Centre; and by her two grandsons, whom she dearly loved and was so proud of, Peter and Kenzie Sheppard. Nanny was special to her two grandsons; as they were to her. She is also survived by two sisters, Mary J. MacDonald, Sydney, and Elizabeth Ann Dawe, Texas; and by several nieces and nephews. Frances was predeceased by her husband and soulmate, Peter John Maroun in March 1996, and by her brother, Frank Dawe Jr., Cleveland, Ohio. At mom's request there will be no visitation. There will be a funeral mass to celebrate her life at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Sydney River, at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010, Fr. Will MacPherson and Fr. Albert Maroun officiating. Interment will be held at Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, En Cala Unit (4E) or to a charity of choice. In July, they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary with friends and colleagues from the many groups and projects that were part of her very active life, St. Gerard's Guild (president), CWL (50 year member), Holy Redeemer Choir, Brownies (brown owl), Don Bosco Home and School Association (president). Among her outreach endeavors were Holy Redeemer Camp, Welcome Wagon, canvasser for several organizations and chaperone for high school attendees at Expo'67, Montreal. As she once said, she had a real passion for her home, where her fine taste was always evident. She still had time for her skating, community exercise program and her painting. She approached everything with intensity and passion. Born in Avondale, Nfld., Jennie was the daughter of the late Thomas and Bridgit (Parsley) Baker. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Archie Clarke; two daughters, Karen Campbell (Steve), Moncton, N.B. and Janet Porter (Jack), Sydney; one son, Wayne (Betty), Sydney.
