Mom was born in Inverness, and raised in Glace Bay. She was a daughter of the late Clarence and Hilda (Doyle) Stewart. Mom leaves behind to mourn, her pride and joy, son, Gary (Jean) Stewart, Barrie, Ont.; daughters, Laura (Dion) MacLean and Ashley (Kurt) Ferguson, both of Glace Bay; loving grandchildren, Justin and Gary Jr. Stewart, Jarrod MacLean and Cameron Ferguson; brothers, Robert Stewart, Charles (Barb) Stewart; sisters, Marg (Don) Vaters and Kate (Adrian) Bona, all of Glace Bay; and many nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by brothers, Donald Stewart, Clarence (Gary) Stewart and Angus Reid, sister, Virginia Ann and granddaughter, Garilynn Stewart. In mom's earlier years she worked as a supervisor at the General Instruments Plant in Sydney and also worked as a secretary for Dr. Chokshi's Glace Bay clinic. Mom was an angel on earth and now she has her wings. She will be forever missed by everyone who knew her. As we reflect on our mom's life we take comfort in knowing she is finally home with her mom and dad. Danny passed away at his residence in Glace Bay, after a short battle with cancer. He would have celebrated his 65th birthday on Friday, May 20. Born in Glace Bay, Danny was the son of the late Harold and Elizabeth (Steele) Dearing, longtime residents of Seaview Street. In his younger years Danny served with the Canadian Navy, travelling the world aboard the vessel Coutenay. He later worked for a short time in our local coal mines and in other mines and factories throughout Ontario and Western Canada. He was a longtime member of the Army, Navy and Air Force Club and the Hub Club, both in Glace Bay. Danny will be sadly missed by his extended family at the Hub Club, who were very good to him. Danny is survived by a son, Rickey, Ontario; sister, Sharon (Art), Glace Bay; brothers, Harold (Mary Jane), Truro, N.S., James (Brenda), Bobby (Anna), both of Glace Bay, Blair (Debbie), Lower Sackville, N.S.; Danny is also survived by several aunts and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Besides his parents, Danny was also predeceased by a brother, Crawford, Ont. In honouring Danny's requests, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Cremation has take place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A graveside service will be held at a later date in Greenwood Cemetery, Glace Bay. Born in New Waterford, he was the son of John 'Pappy' and stepmother, Diane (McKenzie) Steiger. John loved hunting, fishing and carpentry, but most of all enjoyed the time he spent with his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy. He is survived by the love of his life, wife, Cheryl (Campbell); son, John (Shyloe); daughters, Amanda (Devin) and Jennifer (Ryan); grandchildren, Jonathan, Talyssa, Savannah, Devin and Danni-Lynn; sisters, Linda, Beverley, both of Alberta, Debbie (Joe), Dartmouth; brother, Billy (Cathy); mother-in-law, Mary Campbell; special cousin Donna as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Born in Glace Bay, Enis was the son of the late Jack and Charlotte (Gillis) Martin. Enis spent the years of the Second World War serving in the Merchant Marines overseas. Enis had a great love and passion for violin and fiddle music. He enjoyed playing the violin throughout his entire life sharing his love of music with all those who knew him. Enis is survived by his brother, John Martin of Glace Bay and several nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by all. Besides his parents, Enis was predeceased by sisters, Barbara, Rita and Catherine; brothers, Buddy, Roy and Adrian. Carmichael, only son of Norman "Archie" Carmichael & Christine Macleod (Governor), formerly of Belmont, Mass. Diane Kempt, DLM, will be officiating. Lloyd passed away in Massachusetts on October 10, 2010. Lloyd truly loved Cape Breton, it's Scottish music and his many friends & relatives who lived here. Sadly missed by all. *********************************** Ruth (Steele) Barrett - Ruth (Steele) Barrett was born on January 22, 1924 to Charles and Florence Steele of Whitney Pier. Married June 19, 1946, at Trinity United CHurch, Whitney Pier to George Henry Barrett (deceased March 5, 2007) in Daytona Beach Florida. Ruth spent many months of each year in Florida and California where her daughters, Paulette Barrett-Matson and Deborah Barrett-Hess live. She is survived by her brother, Wendell Keith Steele and sister Olive Steele-Smith, her two daughters and sons-in-law, Paulette & Henry Matson, Deborah & Bruce Hess and two grandchildren, Holly Hess and Brandon Hess. Ruth peacefully passed away on April 4, 2011, of complications from a stroke. A joint memorial service will be held by the family for both Ruth and George Barrett on May 21, 2-011 at 11 am at Bethel United Church, 2583 Hillside Road, Marion Bridge.
