Extra to CB Post obituaries: BY SHARONMONTGOMERY-DUPE CAPE BRETON POST smontgomery@cbpost.com New Waterford man victim of stabbing in Dartmouth - James ( Jimmy) Wareham was probably trying to help a friend when he was stabbed in Dartmouth on the weekend, according to a family member. " The guy pulled a knife on his friend and Jimmy jumped in to stop it," said Wareham's uncle John Wilson of New Waterford. " That is all we know - that is all we have heard at this time." A native of New Waterford, Wareham, 37, had been living in Sackville. He died Sunday in hospital from his wounds. "Jimmy has been up there three months, he was living in one of the (apartment) buildings he was renovating," said Wilson "He stayed there most of the time, but came home when he could on the weekends." Wilson said the family received a call from a friend of Wareham's Sunday, saying Jimmy had died in the hospital. "Here are the family sitting so upset - with a call into Dartmouth police - and the police are not returning their calls." Wilson said after a couple of hours, they still had not heard back from the Halifax Regional Police so the family called the Cape Breton Regional Police for help. "A half hour later two (Cape Breton) police officers came to the door," he said. Wilson said the family is devastated. "Jimmy was just Jimmy," Wilson said. "He always laughed and joked and carried on - he was loyal to his friends." In Cape Breton, Wareham lived with his parents Greg and Agnes (Polly) Wareham on Mahon Street. Const. Brian Palmeter, public information officer for the Halifax Regional Police, said police found Wareham in an apartment building on Primrose Street in Dartmouth, late Saturday evening. " We received a call about a person being stabbed," said Palmeter. " We arrived and located Mr. Wareham suffering from a stab wound and he was taken to hospital, where he died." The Halifax Regional Police/RCMP Integrated Major Crime Unit are investigating the homicide. "Basically we determined there was some kind of argument which took place which escalated to the point he was stabbed. " We have been provided some leads we are still tracking down, but at this point no arrests have been made and no charges have been laid." Wareham's father Greg did not want to comment on the death of his son. He said the family is waiting to hear when Jimmy's body will be released, so funeral arrangements can be finalized. " We don't know yet, nothing has been finalized yet." Some family members are meeting with the Halifax police in Halifax, today. **************************************** Marion Bell LeRoy Born In: Scotland, United Kingdom Passed Away In: North Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away On: 23/05/2011 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother and sister, Marion Bell LeRoy, 96, a resident of the Northside Community Guest Home, on Monday, May 23, 2011, at the Northside General Hospital. "Always a smile, instead of a frown, Always a hand when one is down, Always true thoughtful and kind, Wonderful memories she left behind" ******************************************* Marjorie Billard Born In: Rose Blanche, Newfoundland, Canada Passed Away In: North Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away On: 23/05/2011 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Marjorie Billard, on Monday, May 23, 2011 at the Northside Community Guest Home, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Rose Blanche, NL., she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Annie (Smith) Collier. Marjorie was a caring, kind lady who in an unassuming yet profound way touched the lives of many friends and family. Her belief in the goodness of others and always looking on the bright side of life left her with a smile that brightened us all even in her dying hours. Marjorie moved from Newfoundland to North Sydney in 1957 and provided complimentary Bed and Breakfast to all her relatives and friends and any others that might be travelling to and from her native province. She was well known for her delicious cooking and baking. Everybody marveled at her ability to cater a meal to unexpected guests that might arrive at the magic dinner hour. On Ingraham Street in North Sydney, where she lived for many years before moving to the seniors' complex she was fondly called Aunt Margy by all the neighborhood children. They loved her home-made cookies and she treated each one like family. She worked very hard in her life, overcoming many obstacles, but always made sure that "Jack", the love of her life took priority and was taken care of. For a number of years before his death in 2004 he was able to reciprocate that same dedication to her as she lived with dementia. However in earlier retirement years they both enjoyed many exciting card games and other activities, always together. And together they moved into the Northside Community Guest Home in December 2001. Marjorie has since received all the love and affection from the staff there that she so freely gave to others over the years. Her family wishes to make special acknowledgement of this special gift that never went unnoticed and will always be treasured. Marjorie was a devoted member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church. In her earlier years she enjoyed the Altar Guild, ACW and other church functions. She is an honorary member of the North Sydney Senior Citizens and Pensioners Club. She is survived by her two sons, Gordon (Joyce) Billard, North Sydney, Jack (Brenda) Billard, Halifax; her two daughters, Nora Marion Lockhart, Florida, Marilyn (Terry) Ivey, North Sydney; her daughter-in-law, Joan MacGean, North Sydney; her brothers, Gerald Collier, Port aux Basques, Nfld., Sandy Collier, Sambro, N.S., Ronald Collier, Rose Blanche, Nfld.; her sisters, Loretta (Leander) Gillard, Sudbury, Ont., Bessie Price, Centralia, Washington; her 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
