Reid Passed Away In: Burlington, Ontario, Canada It is with deep sadness that we the family announce the passing of our brother Bob in Ontario. His family were there with him to the end. Bob is survived by his wife, Helen of 44 years in Burlington; his stepchildren, Allan Hawker, Edmonton, Pauline Hawker, June Rushak, both of Milton, Ont., and Susan Walker, Saskatoon; 11 grandchildren. Bob is also survived by his brothers, Bert Reid, Gainesville, Fla., Gordie (Lexie) Reid, North Sydney; sisters, Edna Hilton, Margie (Brian) Killen, both of Kitchener, Marion MacBurnie, North Sydney, Elaine (Gary) Smith, Dartmouth; sister-in-law, Carole Reid, Dartmouth; many nieces and nephews. Bob was predeceased by his parents, Fred J. and Charlotte Reid, brothers, Lloyd and Donnie, North Sydney, Larry, Dartmouth, sisters, Gladys Ferguson, Sydney Mines, Charlotte Erskine, Montreal. Cremation has taken place. Funeral to be held in Ontario. Interment of his ashes to take place at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney, at a later date. Memorials may be made to Prostate Cancer or a charity of ones choice. "I have been blessed, now my soul is at rest." ************************************ Daniel Hatcher Born In: North Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away In: Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away On: 28/04/2011 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, brother and uncle, Daniel Hatcher, 79, a resident of Willowdale Drive, Cole Harbour, and formerly of North Sydney on Thursday, April 28, 2011, at the Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in North Sydney, he was a son of the late Alexander and Elsie (Cox) Hatcher. Dan was a well known carpenter and was employed at one time as a foreman with the Town of North Sydney. He was an avid camper and outdoorsman, he enjoyed bowling and being a Toronto Blue Jays fan. Surviving is his son, David Hatcher, Morinville, Alta.; daughter, Carolyn (Gordon) Marsh, Mississauga, Ont.; grandchildren, Jeffery, Kevin and Steven Ferneyhough, Jasmin and Sebastian Hatcher; brother, Alec (Florence) Hatcher, Port Hawkesbury; his sisters, Elsie Apesteguy, North Sydney, Georgina (Raymond) Dowling, Port Hawkesbury; a special nephew, Hughie John Dowling; and several other nieces and nephews. Dan was predeceased by his first wife, Sarah (Koloski) Hatcher and his second wife, Shirley Hatcher, sisters, Ethel, Bertha, Mary, Cora and Naomi, brothers, Clayton, Freeman, Walter, Charles and Fred. Visitation for Dan will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Carl Fraser officiating. Burial to take place at Lakeside Cemetery at a later date. Born in Birch Plain, she was the daughter of the late Alex and Margaret Ann (MacLean) MacLeod. Alice was a member of French River Presbyterian Church and was retired from her career as a nurses aid. Alice is survived by her daughters, Annette (Bill) Smith, Sydney, Beverly (Edward) Keeling, Baddeck; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Carol Morrison, St. Catharines, Ont. She was predeceased by her husband, Alexander, and both of her sons, Claude and Kenneth. Visitation will take place Monday, 7-9 p.m. at Sydney Memorial Chapel. Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the chapel with Rev. Robert Lyle officiating. Interment in Ocean View Cemetery. Following the service there will be a reception in the funeral home. Born in Glace Bay, and formerly of Donkin, she was the daughter of the late Dan and Bell Ferguson. She was at one time employed with Maritime Tel & Tel as an operator, and along with her husband Nello, ran the Donkin Bus Service. She was a member of Queen Victoria Rebekah Lodge No. 63 and IODE Isle Royal Chapter. Sara and Nello had a wide circle of friends who loved them both for their kindness, generousity and great sense of humour. Sara was associated with the Cape Breton Christian Fellowship Church, Sydney, and St. Luke's Church, Donkin. She is survived by her son, Gary (Trudy Joseph), Albert Bridge; daughters, Judith (Kenneth) MacPhee, Lower Sackville, Brenda (Craig) McMullen, Darthmouth; and grandson, Randal Tomada, Halifax. She was predeceased by her husband, Nello and daughter Joan in infancy. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 3 at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay, with Kevin Mattatall officiating. Burial in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens at a later date. Born in River Bourgeois, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Ann (Pottie) Fougere. Dad enjoyed fishing and riding his scooter. He was an animal lover who took in stray cats and he loved visiting friends. He will be greatly missed by his daughters, siblings and childhood best friend Hughie MacRae and his wife Joan. Edward is survived by his daughters, Theresa (Paul) Melanson, New Brunswick, Arlene (Mel) Fougere, Meat Cove; sisters, Veronica MacRae, Grand Anse, Rose Fougere, St. Peters, Sadie (Al) Darling, Grand Anse; brother, Charles (Trudy), Halifax; 17 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Eileen (Provost) , brother, Arthur, a sister-in-law, Mabel MacRae, brothers-in-law, Percy MacRae and Gerald LeLacheur. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca. ***************************************** Germaine Theresa Henry Passed Away In: New Waterford, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away On: 30/04/2011 It is with great sadness that we, the family of Germaine announce her passing at home, surrounded by her loving family, on April 30, 2011, after a short but courageous battle with cancer. She was the daughter of the late Sylvain and Violet (Cameron) Brenna. Germaine was a kind, gentle person who touched many lives. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend to many. She also was a dedicated worker at the Army and Navy bingo for many years. She took great pride in being an Eucharist minister at Mt. Carmel and would also bring communion home to the sick and shut-ins in her neighbourhood. Her friend Margaret looked forward to her visits with communion every week, rain or shine. Her faith in God brought Germaine and her family a lot of peace during her illness. Germaine is survived by her daughters, Amanda (Darren), New Waterford, Vicki, Halifax; and son, Eddie (Jennifer), Sydney; grandchildren, Michael Edward, Melissa, Madison, Ranger and Jeffrey; sisters, Lorrine Williams and Betty (Wayne) Gillis; brothers, Tony (Judy), Sylvain (Pierrette), Phonse (Marion), Donnie (Margaret-Ann) and Jerry 'Jooky' (Sis). Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her husband, Edward Joseph Henry in 1987, brothers, Eddy, Henry, Johnny, sisters, Carmel, in infancy and Sylvia (Bugsy). As per her request, cremation has taken place and a funeral mass to celebrate Germaine's life will be held Wednesday, May 4 at 10 a.m. in the Parish of St. Leonard's Mount Carmel Avenue, with a luncheon to follow at the Army & Navy, Smith Street. Eldon passed away Friday, April 29, 2011. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Raymond and Lillian (Holland) Livingston. Eldon was a pipe fitter by trade and was a member of Local 682, Sydney. Eldon is survived by brothers, John (Joan), Glace Bay, Patrick (Bernice), Dominion; sisters, Winnifred Stewart, Reserve Mines, Maureen (Ron) Young, Halifax, Geraldine (Wayne) Lewis, Reserve Mines; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Eldon was predeceased by a sister, Kathleen, brothers, Raymond, Jr. and Brian. In honoring Eldon's wishes, there will be no visitation. Rebecca is survived by maternal grandparents, Billy and Brenda Sharpe, New Waterford; paternal grandmother, Cavell Johnston; sister, Rhianna Monica Johnston; aunts, Maureen Johnston and Elizabeth Johnston of Florence; uncle, Brian (Jen) Sharpe and their daughter, Dakota, New Waterford. She was predeceased by maternal great-grandparents, Harold and Agnes Sharpe and Gordon and Mary Peckham; paternal great-grandparents, Malcolm and Ann Kempt.
