Born in Oban, St. Peter's, she was the daughter of the late Angus and Lizza (MacIntosh) MacDonald. She enjoyed baking and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be missed by all who knew her especially her cat, Minnie. Cassie is survived by her husband, John; daughter, Carmella MacDonald; five granddaughters, Candace, Robyn, Sarah, Samantha, and Sabrina; four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Neil MacDoanld; sister-in-law, Elizabeth MacDonald; as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Hughie (Anna) and John Dan MacDonald. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. Born in Glace Bay, Sept. 11, 1950, he was the son of the late John 'Geazer' and Toni (Stanley) MacInnis. He was a member of Glace Bay Kinsmen and K40 Club, and also Caledonia and Tower Road Dart Leagues. He was a huge Philadelphia Flyers fan and also enjoyed working in his garden. He was employed with Hopkins Fisheries. John is survived by daughters, Jillian (Daniel Devison) Frederiction, N.B., and Natasha (Mark Brooks), Glace Bay; daughter, Stacey Gillis, her children, Anthony, Alicia and Hunter of Alberta. Also survivings are his sister, Susan Thompson; a brother, Stevie (Cathy), of Glace Bay; the mother of his children, Lynn (MacMullin) MacInnis; nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, John was also predeceased by a sister, Betty Kelley. In honoring Johnny's wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. There will be a memorial service at the funeral home chapel on Friday at 3 p.m.with Rev. Norman MacPhee officiating. Born in Glace Bay, Butch was the son of the late Nicholas and Abigail (Mahaney) Stoliar. He retired from Atomic Energy of Canada in 1987. Butch was a member of St. Mary's Anglican Church, Glace Bay. An outgoing man; he belonged to the Sydney Curling Club, Ben Eoin Ski Club and the Lingan Golf Course. Butch also enjoyed spending his summers in Round Island at his summer home as well as travelling to Myrtle Beach to play golf. He is survived by his wife, Coreen (McKinnon) Stoliar; one son, Andrew (Judy), Ontario; a brother, William (Florence), New Minas; three sisters, Lena MacKenzie, Damar Daye (Patrick), both of Glace Bay, Sherry Locke (Donald); P.E.I.; granddaughter, Isabella; and numerous nieces and nephews. Butch was predeceased by sisters, Laura Cuzner, Mary Stoliar, Anne Baird, Rose Blunden and one brother, Nick. Visitation will be held Sunday, from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. God called home our gentle but strong mother May 1, 2011, while surrounded by her loving family at the Glace Bay Hospital. Born in Glace Bay, Mary was the daughter of the late Walter and Rose (Kelly) Young. Mary was a dedicated wife to her husband Ernest of 52 years and a dedicated mother and grandmother to her family. She was also a very religious lady with very strong faith. Mary enjoyed helping others through her nursing profession and daily life. She enjoyed playing cards, was talented in carpentry work during the building of four homes throughout their married life. As a young girl, Mary lived on Reserve St. attended St. Anne's School and enjoyed outdoor activities such as horseback riding and skating on the marsh. As a school girl Mary sang soprano in St. Anne's Choir. She will be sadly missed by her daughters, Mrs. Joan Pelrine, Port Hawkesbury, Mrs. Jaevaius MacKenzie (Michael), Dartmouth, and Susan McCormick (Blair), Birch Grove; brothers, Walter Young, Glace Bay, and Gerald Young, Kitchener, Ont.; sisters, Connie Fraser, Hamilton, Ont., and Betty Chaisson, Brampton, Ont. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Ernest, son, Eldon, infant daughter, Brenda and son-in-law, Joe Pelrine. Danny passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family after a courageous four-year battle with cancer at the age of 53. Born in Sydney, Danny was the son of William and the late Shirley (Mombourquette) Roach. He was employed with the Cape Breton Regional Hospital (previously St. Rita's) for over 30 years before his illness forced him into early retirement. He thoroughly enjoyed his time at the hospital where he met many lifelong friends. Danny was an avid bowler, which he continued to do until the day Heather Lanes closed. He also enjoyed watching hockey especially his beloved Montreal Canadiens. Danny will be greatly missed by many especially for his humour, even in the toughest moments he had a joke to keep things light. He always had a smile on his face (and candy in his pocket.) He was a very dedicated husband, father and friend who always put others before himself. Danny is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 28 years, Maggie (Margaret Lewis); their children, Chris and Megan (Stephen) MacNeil, and his best friend, his dog Mira. He is also survived by his siblings, Billy (Rose), Marilyn (Garf) Strickland, Les (Valerie) and Glen (Joyce); special uncle Les Dancsecs; aunt Donelda (Everett) Watt; stepmother-in-law, Rose Lewis; sisters-in-law, Ann Philpott, Bunny (Steve) Ash, Grace Patterson (David MacDonald), Warna (David) MacNeil, Debbie (Martell) Lewis; brothers-in-law, Joe (Carol) Lewis and Ed Lewis (Shelly Lockhart); along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Online condolences may be sent to our webpage at www.chantfuneralhome.com. ***************************************** Robert 'Bobby' Wadden Born In: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away In: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away On: 02/05/2011 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert 'Bobby' Wadden on Monday, May 2, 2011, at the Glace Bay Hospital. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Johnny and Greata (Hewitt) Wadden. Bobby's hockey skills landed him a career with Devco, where he was employed as a safety inspector until his retirement in 1998. Bobby was an avid sportsman, starting at an early age, playing hockey for Caledonia School. He played for the Glace Bay Miners, both junior and senior leagues and many more. He finished his hockey career with the Glace Bay Senior Colts and continued to play with the Gentlemen's Colliery Hockey League. He was inducted into the Cape Breton Sports Hall of Fame for the Sydney Mines Ten Pennies hockey team in 2006. Bobby also enjoyed playing all levels of baseball, starting with the Glace Bay Little League and finishing with the MacKay's Corner Lob Ball Men's League, winning the championship with all his buddies. Bobby was a well respected left-handed pitcher with a very strong bat. One of dad's true passions in life was harness racing. This started at an early age with his father training and racing the horses. He travelled the racing circuit throughout the Maritime provinces, but always looked forward to Old Home Week in Charlottetown, P.E.I. He owned and co-owned many horses but will be remembered for such horses as Sudden Song, Rhonda's Fella, Farmer Man and "the little fella" Loch Monster. It was said "he will be remembered as a legend at the track." Bobby will be missed dearly by his co-trainer and son, Rob (Collette); his daughter, Tammy (Stephen) Murrant; his precious grandchildren, RJ, Megan, Blayke and Brielynn; special niece, Kendra; his loving companion and best friend, Isabel (Yates). Surviving are aunt Ethel (Wadden) Barrett; sisters-in-law, Gerri-Lynn Shea and Kathy (Mari) Toll; brother-in-law, Johnny Skaines and their families. Dad had a wonderful extended family that meant the world to him, Cindy (Michael) Williams, John (Wendy) Yates, Kelly (Tammy) Yates, Ashley, Kelly and Cameron Yates. In 1998, his world was shattered, after 33 years of marriage, Bobby tragically lost his loving wife and mother of his children, Patsy (Shea) Wadden. Bobby was the last surviving member of his immediate family, predeceased by both sisters, Ethel Skaines and Gwen Wadden. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. The funeral service will be held Friday at 2:30 p.m. in the Patten Funeral Home Chapel.
