Born in Albert Co., N.B., he was the son of the late Vernon and Etta (Sprague) Smith. A veteran of the Second World War, Gerald served as an aero-engine mechanic with the RCAF. He was a member of First United Church, Sydney and for 35 years, was employed at Canada Mortgage and Housing. Gerald enjoyed spending time camping, gardening and taking long walks. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Rose; sons, Gerald Jr., Howie Centre and George (Debbie), Riverview, N.B.; grandchildren, Jeffrey Smith, Halifax, Jenna (John) MacAulay, Howie Centre, Brent (Kristy) Smith, Dartmouth and Tracy Smith, Halifax; great-grandchildren, Rebecca MacAulay and Luke Smith. Gerald was predeceased by his brother, Reginald and daughter-in-law, Rose (Robertson) Smith. Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at First United Church on Monday 1 p.m., with Rev. Wade Reppert officiating. Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Irene (Paul) Marshall. Anita enjoyed playing cards, bingo, singing, nature, walks in the woods and furthering her education. Born in Sydney Mines, Doris was the daughter of the late John and Esther (Dalton) Young. She was employed for many years at Peoples Store in North Sydney, where she loved helping and talking with all her customers. Doris was a devout and faithful member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney. Ruth was born Sept. 24, 1926, in Sydney. She was a daughter of the late John and Dolena (MacLeod) MacLean. Prior to her retirement Ruth was the manager of the Silver Dart Motel, Baddeck. Ruth leaves to mourn several nieces and nephews. Ruth was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her 1st husband, Paul Tait; 2nd husband, Norman 'Mac' McLeod; sisters, Sonny Primmer, Sally MacLean, Audrey Ames, brothers, John, Fred, Howard, Lawrence, Claude, Jackie and Donald MacLean. Born on April 26, 1942 in Sydney, NS, he was a son of the late John Morrison and Elizabeth (Leblanc) Tobin. Jim was an avid Montreal Canadiens fan, loved his Toronto Blue Jays and enjoyed spending time at the horse races. He was a long standing member of the Loyal Order of Moose. Jim is survived by his two daughters, Michelle (Glenn) Corbett, Kitchener, Ont. and Paula Morrison, Mississauga, Ont.; wife, Barbara Morrison; brother, Harry Tobin, Sydney, N.S. and two grandchildren, Taylor and Colin Corbett, Kitchener, Ont.; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.
