Mike Yurczyszyn John Alexander 'Big J' Mills Angus 'Jim' MacDonald ******************************************************************************************************* Mike Yurczyszyn Born In: Whitney Pier, Nova Scotia, Canada Born On: 28/09/1924 Passed Away In: Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away On: 27/07/2011 With sadness, we the family regret to announce the passing of Mike Yurczyszyn on Wednesday, July 27, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by his family. Born Sept. 28, 1924, in Whitney Pier, Fredrick Street, Mike was the son of the late Fred and Barbara (Byk) Yurczyszyn. Mike was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Mike raised his family of 11 children in the Pier. He was a steel worker for 42 years and also served in the Second World War with the Saskatchewan Artillery. Mike was seriously wounded in Des Plaines, France. On his return home, he was back at Sysco and also worked with the militia in Sydney and the Sergeant's Mess. He served as a volunteer with the Whitney Pier Fire Department. Mike was a member of the KoC, 1060 Council and longtime member of the Holy Redeemer Men's Club. He also was a longtime server and Eucharistic minister at Holy Redeemer and member of Whitney Pier Legion, Branch 128. Mike is survived by his wife, Veronica of almost 65 years; his sons, Michael (Maryena), Frederick (Linda), David (Patsy), Gerry (Glenda), Kevin and Timothy; and daughters, Irene (George), Theresa (Bob), Diane (Mac), Valerie and Joan. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Mike was predeceased by a brother, Bill and sisters, Mary, Katie, Pauline, Madeline and Helen. Visitation for the late Mike Yurczyszyn will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home, Whitney Pier, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Friday, July 29, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service to celebrate Mike's life will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Holy Redeemer Church, Whitney Pier, with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Light refreshments will be served at the Pier Community Funeral Home reception area. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks. Family flowers only, donations in memory of Mike may be made to the CNIB, MS Society or charity of your choice. John was a generous and caring man who was always willing to help anyone. He left the world a better place. Arrangements entrusted to Regina Funeral Home, 306-789-8850 ************************************** Angus 'Jim' MacDonald Born In: New Waterford, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away In: Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away On: 26/07/2011 Angus James MacDonald, age 67, of Woodland, Calif. and formerly of New Waterford, died suddenly while vacationing in Cape Breton on Tuesday, July 26, 2011, with his loving wife and best friend, Carol by his side. Jim passed away at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in New Waterford, Jim was the son of Florence (MacIsaac) MacDonald and the late Daniel MacDonald. Jim immigrated to the United States in 1963 where he met and married his wife of 44 years, Carol (Attebery) MacDonald in 1966. He was employed at the University of California at Davis, as the supervisor of the maintenance department. Jim loved woodworking and restoring furniture for his family. He was an avid gardener. But mostly, Jim was a loving and compassionate family man. Besides his wife, Carol and his mother, Florence, Jim is survived by his two sons, Michael (Heidi), Matthew (Angela), both in Woodland, Calif.; three brothers, Danny, Surrey, B.C., Johnnie (Patricia), Baddeck, David, Sydney; and three sisters, Annette, Marion, New Waterford, and Dianne Caveliere, Kitchener, Ont. Also surviving are Jim's two grandchildren, Andon and Peyton MacDonald, Woodland, Calif.; numerous, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Jim was predeceased by his father, Daniel. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A reception to celebrate Jim's life will be held at St. Leonard's hall, Convent Street, New Waterford, Friday at 2 p.m. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Jim's honour may be made to a charity of one's choice.
