Maurice Edward MacDonald John 'Donnie' MacInnis Evelyn (Hureau) Callaghan Mary Boudreau Elizabeth 'Betty' Young Mary 'Laura' (MacNeil) Elias ******************************************************************************************************* Maurice Edward MacDonald Born In: Victoria County, Nova Scotia, Canada Born On: 18/10/1922 Passed Away In: Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away On: 02/07/2011 With saddened hearts and loving memories, we announce the passing of our cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, Maurice Edward MacDonald. Maurice died peacefully Saturday, July 2, 2011, at his home on Steelworkers Lane at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, where he resided for the past four years. He was a former resident of 12 Hospital Rd., Edwardsville. He was born in Victoria County on Oct. 18, 1922, and was the son of the late John and Elizabeth (Morrison) MacDonald. He was a faithful adherent of Bethel Presbyterian Church, Sydney. Maurice was always very ambitious and was self-employed for many years in the forestry industry. Maurice was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Janie (George) MacRae, brothers, Willard MacDonald, Kenny (Annie) MacDonald and Donnie MacDonald and stepdaughter, Valerie Chartrand. Left to mourn with loving memories are his wife of 31 years, Mary (Yeo) (Arsenault); daughters, Karen (Walter) MacKenzie, Brampton, Ont., and Christine (Freeman) Reynolds, Nipawin, Sask. He will always be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Murnell (Garan) Yablon and Christopher (Christy) MacKenzie and his great-grandchildren, Brayden, C.J., Elijah, Elliot and Olivia MacKenzie and Grayson and Alyssa Yablon. Maurice was also a kind and loving father to his stepchildren, Mary Lou (Tom) Stobbs, St. Albert, Alta., John (Ruth) Arsenault, Westmount, and Corinne (Kurt) Albiez, Lethbridge, Alta.; as well as his step son-in-law, Lloyd Chartrand, Coxheath. Papa Maurice will also be lovingly remembered by his step-grandchildren, Derek (Sabine) Stobbs, Terry (Krista) Stobbs, Katie (Craig) Hodder, Johnny (Kaitlain) Chartrand, Mary Chartrand, Mark (Rachael) Albiez, Jamie Albiez, Byron Albiez and their families. Also left to mourn are his first wife, Murdena MacDonald, North Sydney; sister-in-law, Ethel MacDonald, Baddeck; as well as several nieces and nephews who always held a special place in Maurice's heart. Maurice was a kind and gentle man who was always a pleasure to be around. He was very social and always enjoyed going to dances and playing a good game of cards. His spirit will live in the hearts of his family and friends whom he cherished. For the past four years, Maurice's home has been at Harbourstone Enhanced Care where he continued to enjoy the good company of family and friends and made many new friends with the residents and staff there. Maurice's family want to acknowledge the amazing staff and facilities at Harbourstone Enhanced Care. The respect, dignity and most of all the love they freely displayed is etched in our hearts forever. Thank you very much for all you have done to ensure his quality of life. There will be no visitation. The funeral service will take place at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, on Thursday, July 7 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Robert Lyle presiding. Beloved partner of Tom Cowan, Donnie was in his 73rd year and was predeceased by parents, Colin and Elizabeth MacInnis and brothers, James and Phillip. He will be lovingly remembered by sister, Mary Ellen (Donald) Fraser of Port Hood; brothers, Frank (Mary) and Alexander (Margaret), of London, Ont.; Hughie (Diane) of Halifax; Richard (Rose) of Petawawa, Ont.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Services to be held in St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, 6903 Mumford Rd., on Friday, July 15 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alzheimer Society of Canada. ********************************************* Evelyn (Hureau) Callaghan Born In: Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away In: Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away On: 03/07/2011 Evelyn (Hureau) Callaghan, 76, of 34 Glebe Ave., Sydney, died Sunday, July 3, 2011, at home after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her loved ones. Born in Sydney, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Laura (Benoit) Hureau. She was retired from Maritime Tel and Tel since 1995 and enjoyed her monthly luncheons with the girls from work. She was an avid skater and dancer and was well renowned for her grace both on the ice and on the dance floor. In recent years she loved her monthly card games, staying close to home and watching Blue Jays and Maple Leaf games. She was predeceased by husband, Leo and sisters, Carmelita and Jeannette. She is survived by loving companion, Ewen MacDonnell; daughter, Allison and son, Greg (Mary) of Sydney; sisters, Theresa MacQueen, Sydney; Delores, (Bob) Martin and Josephine (Aubrey) Boone, both of Dartmouth; brothers-in-law, Sonny MacTavish, Sydney and Bernie Campbell, Greenwood, N.S. Proud grandmother to Ryan, Jason and Adam Callaghan. There will be no visitation for the late Mrs. Callaghan. A funeral mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church in Sydney at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 6, 2011. A reception will follow at the Sydney Curling Club on George Street in Sydney. Born in Sydney Mines, Mary was the daughter of the late Jerome Forrest and Bernetta (Neil) MacInnis. Mary was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Sydney. She was employed with the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Environmental Department. She loved to shop and travel. Mary had a special place in her heart for family and animals. She will be remembered for her caring, concerned and loving ways. Mary is survived by her partner and best friend, Al Aboud; daughters, Shannon and Brandy Williams; son, Jimmy Boudreau; sisters, Elizabeth MacDonald, Doris LeBlanc, Margaret Ann Taylor and Georgina Gracie; brothers, Jerome Forrest and Billy Blackie; nine grandchildren and one special granddaughter, Brittany; one great-grandchild; close friends, Mary Ann and Lisa MacMillian.
