Florence peacefully passed away at the Glace Bay Hospital with her loving family at her side on Monday, July 04, 2011. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Catherine (MacDonald) MacPhee, and was a faithful member of both St. Anthony's and St. Anne's churches in Glace Bay. In her earlier years Florence was employed at Mendelson's Variety Mart in Glace Bay and later with Sobey's, where she retired after several years of service. She was a longtime member of the Glace Bay Ladies Bowling League. Mom was a very mild-mannered lady who up until Monday was still more concerned about others than herself. Florence truly enjoyed spending the winter months in Florida with her husband Tommy prior to his passing in 2007. She will be sadly missed by her loving children, daughter, Maureen (Brad) Boutilier, Atikokan, Ont.; sons, Leo (Carolyn), Sydney, Kevin (Elma), Halifax; granddaughters, Kathlene Farrell (Stephen Perry), Halifax, Megan Farrell, Sydney; brothers, Kelly, Halifax, Garfield, Glace Bay; sisters, Shirley MacMullin, Cleo Tobin, both of Glace Bay, Joan Parsons, Sydney, Bernice Nickituk, Glace Bay, Maureen Robertson, Howie Center; sisters-in-law, Katherine (Danny) Sullivan, Glace Bay, Judy (Roddie) MacDonald, Truro; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Farrell, and brother, Walter MacPhee. In honoring Mom's wishes there will be no visitation. The funeral Mass celebrating Mom's life will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, July 7, 2011, at St. Anthony's Church, Glace Bay, with Fr. Norman MacPhee officiating, with interment following in St. Anne's Cemetery, Glace Bay. All are invited to join the family at a reception in St. Anthony's Parish Hall, Glace Bay, following the funeral and graveyard service. Family flowers only. Born in Sydney, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Laura (Benoit) Hureau. She was retired from Maritime Tel and Tel since 1995 and enjoyed her monthly luncheons with the girls from work. She was an avid skater and dancer and was well renowned for her grace both on the ice and on the dance floor. In recent years she loved her monthly card games, staying close to home and watching Blue Jays and Maple Leaf games. She was predeceased by husband, Leo and sisters, Carmelita and Jeannette. She is survived by loving companion, Ewen MacDonnell; daughter, Allison and son, Greg (Mary) of Sydney; sisters, Theresa MacQueen, Sydney; Delores, (Bob) Martin and Josephine (Aubrey) Boone, both of Dartmouth; brothers-in-law, Sonny MacTavish, Sydney and Bernie Campbell, Greenwood, N.S. Proud grandmother to Ryan, Jason and Adam Callaghan. There will be no visitation for the late Mrs. Callaghan. A funeral mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church in Sydney at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 6, 2011. A reception will follow at the Sydney Curling Club on George Street in Sydney.
