Bentley was born in Bras d'Or, April 27, 1960, a son of the late Garvin and Audrey (Newton) Steele. For 28 years Bentley was a respected and successful business owner of Hilltop Trailer Services with his wife Brenda. He was a cherished friend to many and his home and heart were open to all. Bentley was happiest when he was entertaining his friends and family. Bentley will be greatly missed by his wife, Brenda Lee (Peterson); his sister, Debbie Young (George), Georges River; and many brothers and sisters-in-law. He is survived by his brothers, David, Windsor and Jackie, Halifax; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Allison. There will no visitation. Mass of Christian Burial will take place Friday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, Bras d'Or, with Fr. Peter McLeod officiating. Pete passed away suddenly Saturday, July 10, 2011 at the QE II Hospital, Halifax. Pete was born Oct. 8, 1948, in the Netherlands. He began his career with the Canadian Air Force. He was employed for many years as a radar technician in the Northwest Territories. He was employed with Stream International for five years. Most recently, Pete was employed as a computer programmer with Copol International Ltd., Sydport. Pete loved playing with his grandchildren, computers, gardens, health foods and fine wine. He enjoyed working on home projects and reading. Pete will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Jane (MacKay) deWitte; sons, Earl MacKay (Shelly), Dominion, Peter (Paula), Truro; daughter, Jane Catharina deWitte (Randy), Windsor; cherished grandchildren, Michael, Shalyn and Jessie MacKay, Dominion, Christopher deWitte, Dominion, Angelina Paige deWitte, Truro; stepmother, Shirley deWitte, New Brunswick; sister, Alice Bateson, Toronto; brother, Emil Janson, Ontario; stepsisters, Catherine and Nancy; stepbrother, Lorre. He was the son of the late Rose and Murdock Campbell and was predeceased by brothers, Ralph, Raymond and Louis. His cremains will be buried in the parish cemetery following the mass. ********************************** John 'Sonny' Herve Born In: Florence, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away In: Shearwater, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away On: 11/07/2011 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather and brother, Sonny Herve of Shearwater, N.S. WO (retired) CD2, RCAF and CAF. Sonny passed away July 11, 2011, in Dartmouth, N.S. Sonny was born in Florence, Cape Breton, the eldest son of the late Alexis and Agnes (MacInnis) Herve of Pitt Street. Sonny spent 38 years in the RCAF and CAF, serving on several bases throughout Canada, a posting in France as well as a UN tour in Cyprus. Upon retirement from the service, he was employed for nine years with the Corps of Commissionaires at Shearwater. Sonny was a kind and gentle man with a witty sense of humour; always holding a lot of love and pride for his family. In later years his greatest enjoyment came from his granddaughters, Mackenzie and Elizabeth 'Beth', whom he loved dearly. Sonny is survived by his wife, Hilda (Bragg); his four sons, Wayne (Cathy), Edmonton, Alta., Arthur (Nancy), Dartmouth, N.S., Wilfred, Dawson Creek, B.C. and LCol Brian (Lisa), Oromocto, N.B.; granddaughters, Mackenzie and Elizabeth; two step-grandchildren, Adam and Edana; his brother, William, Inverness; sisters, Eva (Buddy) Scott, Ohio, USA, Irene MacMillan, New Waterford, Regina (Reg) Jobe, North Sydney, Joan Coady, Sydney Mines, Agnes Reid, Sydney, and Marguerite (Johnny) MacNeil, Sydney Mines. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Sonny was predeceased by his youngest sister, Freda Devlin; his foster brother, Wilfred Hart; a sister and two brothers as toddlers. Visitation for Sonny Herve will be held Thursday, July 14, 2011, in the J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral mass will be held in St. Stephen's Church, Florence, Friday at 10 a.m. with Fr. Ajit Kerketta officiating. Interment to take place in Brookside Cemetery, Sydney Mines. Reception to follow at the Florence Legion. Born in North Sydney, N.S., she was the daughter of the late Howard and Katherine (Denney) Morrison. She was a medical secretary/receptionist for many local doctors including Dr. Vasudevan and the late Dr. Pershad. She was a member of the Santa Maria Council and avid, well-loved bowler at Castle Bowling Center Kaye is survived by her loving husband, Gilles Cusson; daughter, Michelle Cusson of Miramichi; son, Rene (Melissa) Cusson of Saint John; grandchildren, Hayleigh and Drey Carvery, Calvin and Devin Cusson; sister, Paula (David) Jessome of Georges River Cape Breton, N.S.; one aunt, Florence Hatcher of Alberta; cousin, Claudia Slade, North Sydney, N.S. and many other cousins, nieces and nephews. Marion passed away peacefully July 10, 2011, in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by her loving children and with adoring whispers from afar. Born Aug. 13, 1932, Marion was a daughter of the late Nelson and Irene (Rideout) Clarke. She was parented by her grandfather Louis Clarke, chief of police for North Sydney. Marion graduated at the top of her RCAF class, winning numerous awards and recommendations. Marion pursued many interests; her education, curling, Girl Guides of Canada and she was also a board member for numerous associations for the betterment of her communities. Her most fulfilling passion was raising and loving her family. Marion will be missed everyday by her seven children, Melanie, Jo-Anne, Sheila, John, Gary, Shelley and Shane; their spouses; 15 grandchildren; her brother Artie; paternal siblings, Ruth, Patrice, Stan, Larry, Michael, Nelson (predeceased) and friends. A Celebration of Life and Love Service to honour Marion and John Pullen will take place in St. Andrew's parish, Neils Harbour, at a later date.
