Jessome Born in: Florence, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: Calgary, Alberta, Canada Passed away on: 08/11/2010 As Ian Jessome would say, "Love comes in two forms: smiles and tears." With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our husband, father, brother, uncle and friend, Ian Jessome. Ian passed away Nov. 8, 2010 at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary, surrounded by family, after a short battle with cancer. After leaving his hometown of Florence, N.S., he started his new life in Fort McMurray at the age of 17. He made a name for himself working within the oilsands construction industry for 27 years. "Married" to his job, but kept in line by his wife, Ian was constantly on-call and gave many their start in the oilsands industry. The family would like to recognize the many notes of appreciation received from across the country since Ian's passing. Ian lived life gauged not by stature, nor size - he may not have been a large man but he was a man whose spirit was larger than life. Like his grandfather, Ian was a magnet to all kids, delighting in the fun and energy they brought to him and he to them, as he was a big kid himself. In any crowd his laugh was contagious. He was known for never hiding an ounce of his personality, whether that was words of wisdom or his not so subtle nudge to get a rise out of people. In either way it was never meant with malice or anything but the best intent. A celebration of Ian's life will be held at St. John's Church, 5 Hospital St., Fort McMurray, Friday, Nov. 19, 2010, at 10 a.m. A reception will follow in the basement of the church. Born in Jubilee, Victoria County, Margaret was the only daughter of Kenneth Thomas and Annie (Ross) MacLeod. In Margaret's younger years she worked at the Isle Royale Hotel in Sydney, even managing to save enough money to buy her first piano, which she and her family truly enjoyed. Once putting the girls to bed she would spend many nights 'tinkering out' the old songs which her children still know and love today. Nannie always made plenty of time to sit rocking her grandchildren and making up special lullabies for each one of them. Margaret's true "occupation" was to serve others. She was the happiest when she was cooking, baking or just caring for everyone else, with no one person being any more important than another. She welcomed everyone into their home day or night and you knew it was just expected that you would be having a cup of tea and hopefully one of her delicious biscuits. Never the less, Margaret was very competitive when it came to a good game of auction, often keeping her opponents up until all hours. Margaret was a very devoted member of the Little Narrows Presbyterian Church where she served with the ladies aid for many years and supported them in any way she could. Margaret is survived by her two daughters, Anne (Lawrence) MacNeil, Ottawa Brook, Victoria County and Jeanie (Robert) MacKinnon, Eureka, Pictou County, N.S. Margaret was a truly loving woman and no one knew this better than her six grandchildren whom she adored, Laura and Rachael MacNeil and Ceilidh, Reilly, Lauchlin and Cullan MacKinnon. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Ruth MacLeod. Also left to feel Margaret's loss is her dear friend Janet Probert of North Sydney who lived with the MacRitchies for 25 years and was simply 'one of their family'. She and Allister were privileged to have many nieces and nephews whom they deeply cared for, who will feel her loss as well. Margaret lived her entire life in a small area of Little Narrows known as 'The Corner' where several families were really molded together as one. Because of such a privileged upbringing she also leaves behind many more "sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews and grandchildren" whom she genuinely considered family. Margaret was predeceased by her loving husband of 54 years, Allister Campbell MacRitchie and her only brother, Gordon MacLeod. Visitation will be on Sunday, Nov. 7 from 2 to 9 p.m. in the Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home in Whycocomagh. Margaret's funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 8, 2010, in the Little Narrows Presbyterian Church with her first cousin, Rev. Ian MacLeod officiating and burial will follow in the Little Narrows Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Victoria County Memorial Hospital Foundation or the Little Narrows Presbyterian Cemetery Fund. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.haverstocks.com. "The angels sang Amazing Grace The Lord came down and touched her face Held her hand and whispered low Come with me it's time to go The gates of Heaven opened wide The angels lined up side by side And a special gift was on her way The day God took our Mother away." **************************************** Cecil Boutilier Born in: Wadden's Cove, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 03/11/2010 Cecil Verner Boutilier, 76 of Glace Bay, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2010, surrounded by his loving family at the Glace Bay Hospital. THE JOURNEY Many years ago, I went to the mines, To support my family, we were nine. The dust set in deep But did not cause my end. It was something different As it took many of my friends. My children are strong, To watch what went wrong As I went to my final sleep, It was hard to watch them weep, I passed on through laughter, which made me glad, It was hard to see my children so sad. Today I went to see my little boy, Johnny is his name and he brought me much joy. I am now at peace and you must understand That it was my time to leave this wonderful land What I taught you, whether great or small You must understand, I love you all So sister or brother Make sure you love one another. ******************************************************************************************************* Cape Breton Deaths courtesy of CBGHA http://www.cbgha.org

May I also add a note of thanks to Dwayne Meisner for his great contribution of transcriptions of Victoria County censuses. I know from bitter experience how difficult these things are to read, and really appreciate their being made available in transcribed form. This is in the best tradition of "random acts of genealogical kindness", so please let's all try to reciprocate whenever we can. Doug Grant, now of Kitchener, Ontario
