    3. Cape Breton Deaths January 04, 2011 Tuesday There are 5 obituaries published for today. Edmond Boudreau Marty Allan Nicholson Millie (Robinson) Jackson Ross Anthony Philip Stead ******************************************************************************************************* Edmond Boudreau Born in: Belle Marche, Cheticamp, Nova Scotia, Canada Born on: 09/10/1933 Passed away in: New Waterford, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 02/01/2010 On Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011, of this new year, when a cure was not to be, a truly remarkable husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend passed away quietly at home after sharing an unforgettable Christmas with his entire family in the family home on LeDrew Street. Born Oct. 9, 1933, in Belle Marche, Cheticamp, he was the son of the late Amedee and Justile (Poirier) Boudreau. At the age of 16 he came to New Waterford and worked with the carpentry trade for his uncle Leo Boudreau for many years. His sons joined him at a very early age and together they formed a company 'Edmond and Sons'. For many years they shared funny stories and laughter at the supper table. At the ripe age of 70 he made it clear that nothing would please him more than to go out west and work the trade with his sons yet again. He had a passion for music, playing guitar and singing, listening to fiddle, and step-dancing. As a member of Mount Carmel parish he loved to attend church and in his younger years sang with the church choir. Edmond was also a 50 year honorary member of the Carpenter's Union, Local 1588, a former member of the KOC and one of the founding members of the Cercle Evangeline (French Club). His sense of humour was with him to the very end. He loved to laugh and would always muster up the strength to let out a bellow. His lingering heavy French accent was one of his many charming qualities despite the fact that he lived in an English speaking community for so many years. He was an avid journal keeper and one only had to query a date and he'd make quick reference to his notes. His toolbox was never too far away as he rushed to tend to anything in need of repair. Edmond leaves behind to treasure memories his wife of 53 years, Pauline (Chaisson); sons, Brian (Yvonne), Wayne, Eric, all of Alberta; daughters, Denise (Philip) McNeil, New Victoria, Willena (Danny) Campbell; grandchildren, Christopher and Meagan, Matthew and Rachelle, Erik and Rebecca and numerous nieces and nephews; brothers, Leo (Jane), Ottawa, Hector (Shirley), Winnipeg; sisters, Zabeth Bourgeois, Marie Theresa, Matilda, Dora (Clifford) Aucoin, Lorette (Simi John) Poirier, all of Cheticamp. He was predeceased by older brother, Joe, sisters, Agnes and Lorette. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration for Edmond will take place Thursday, Jan. 6 at 2 p.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at St. Leonard's Parish Hall on Convent Street, New Waterford. Donations in his memory may be made to the Hospice/Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton or a charity of one's choice. Alfreda 'Freda' MacLennan Basil Boutilier Joseph Aucoin Reginald Patterson Madge McLean William 'Bill' Burke ******************************************************************************************************* Alfreda 'Freda' MacLennan Born in: Point Aconi, Nova Scotia, Canada Born on: 05/07/1925 Passed away in: Albert Bridge, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 28/12/2010 It is with great sadness and many fond memories we announce the passing of our mother, Alfreda MacLennan of Albert Bridge, "Out on the Mira." She passed away Dec. 28, 2010, and she died as she lived, with grace and dignity. Freda was born at the family home in Point Aconi on July 5, 1925. She was the only daughter of Thomas and Norah (MacLean) Bonner. She is survived by her three children, Gary (Darlene) MacLean, Albert Bridge, Joanne MacLean-Ellis (Jamie), Dartmouth, and Beverly MacLean-Corkum (Barrett), Chester Basin. She was a loving and caring grandmother to her grandsons Maclean and Patrick Ellis and her granddaughter Olivia Grace Corkum, and took great delight in all their accomplishments. Mom also kept in contact with a number of the MacLennan step-grandchildren and always enjoyed their visits to Mira. Her friend and companion Ivan Ross, with whom she shared so many wonderful days, also survives her. She remained very close to her nieces Judi Bonner and Kathy Harris and her nephew Tom Bonner and their families. She was predeceased by her brother, Russell, her first husband, James MacLean, and her second husband, Dr. N.K. MacLennan. Mom had many close friends and always enjoyed sharing time with Jean Hines and her family, Jane, Jim, and Ian Lewis. Dottie Brennan was another true friend who always made several wonderful visits a year, highlighted by their annual swim in the Mira. Mom's life was greatly enhanced by the care she received from the wonderful Newfoundland Ladies, Bernetta (BB), Ellen, and Cassie, and she could always count on her good friend Anne-Marie Gushue in times of need. Mom was very proud of her military service, leaving home in 1942 at the age of 17 to enlist in the army, serving her country for three years during the Second World War. She was the first agent for Avis rent-a-car in Sydney and later ran the Hertz franchise for many years. She enrolled in the bachelor of arts program at St. FX Sydney Campus and was a proud graduate in 1982. Freda moved to the banks of the Mira River in 1974 and it was here she found her greatest joy. She always felt blessed to be able to look out her window or sit on her deck and watch the river roll by. Although she travelled extensively around the world, she always was thrilled to get back to her home on Hillside. She remained very active right up until her passing, was an avid bridge player and loved her time spent at the bridge club. Until quite recently, she enjoyed golf, particularly playing the Highland Links, skating and cross-country skiing. In recent years, she became a loyal Screaming Eagles fan and a bit of a 'hockey expert' and could often be heard discussing the team with her hockey buddy, Mabel Joseph. Mom was an outgoing and engaging person who made friends easily and she enjoyed having the opportunity to give back to her community through volunteer work. She was a member of the Old Sydney Society, was past president of the Cove Auxiliary and served on the board of Transition House. She will be missed by all who knew her. Arrangements are under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel. At her request, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the chapel, Monday, Jan. 3, 2011, at 11 a.m., the Rev. Thomas Whent officiating. 3. Try contacting the national archives in Ottawa, usually they will only release the files to an immediate relative. When I obtained my Grandfathers in 1984 I said it was for family research and received everything they had. If the National Public Archives do not have the files then they may be obtainable through either the Nation War Museum or National Defence On 12/28/10 2:57 PM, "Suzanne McDonald" <suzannemcdonald@cogeco.ca> wrote: > I am looking for my grandfather, Murdock MacDonald in the capebreton > highlander records of WWII, Where would I look? > > Thank you Suzanne McDonald > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > NS-CAPE-BRETON-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message
