    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Delorey Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/QOC.2ACE/145.1 Message Board Post: My great-grandfather lived in E. Braintree, right next to Weymouth. He and his wife (also a DeLorey, third cousins) came from Tracadie in the 1880's, and had numerous relatives in the Weymouth/Quincy area. He worked at the shipyard in Weymouth. During this time period, the two main occupations in the Tracadie area were farmer and/or sailor/fisherman. The land is better suited to pastureland than crops. And fishing is a dangerous business. With the industrial revolution in full swing, more money could be made by going down to the "Boston States" and getting a job in a factory, shipyard, etc. Naturally, word got back to the relatives at home, and there was a large exodus during that period. Also, these people were very family oriented, so it made sense to settle close to other relatives who had come down. Great-grandfather had 2 sisters and 4 brothers. From my genealogy research I found that they all ended up in MA.
