    3. Chronicle Herald September 1, 2007 MacKEEN, Scott Cameron - Passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 30, 2007, in St. Mary's Memorial Hospital, Sherbrooke, at age 83. He was born in St. Martha's Hospital, Antigonish, on June 17, 1924. He was a son of the late Forrest and Edna (Manson), brother to Elda (deceased), Elsie (deceased), Alice, Greta, Wilbur (deceased), Herman, and half-brother to Scott Rudolph (deceased). He grew up in Aspen and only left his cherished St. Mary's River Valley for short periods of his life. He was a licensed auto mechanic by trade and earned an Education Certificate from U.N.B. Scott had a lifelong passion for the great outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling, 4-wheeling and golfing. He had a memorable round of golf and several 4-wheeling trips with family just a few days before he passed away. Actively involved in community service, he was a past member and officer in many organizations including the renowned St. Mary's Male Choir, a Past Master of Queen's Masonic Lodge No. 34 of Sherbrooke, Melrose Oldsters Club, Snowmobilers Association of Nova Scotia, Aspen Community Centre, St. Mary's Rifle Club, and Sherbrooke Legion No. 56. For his devotion and service to his community, Scott was recognized with a Volunteer of the Year award presented by the Province of Nova Scotia. He also found time to coach the Aspen Thunderbirds and Aspen Eagles softball teams. He loved socializing at card parties and dances. Scott was known for his helping hand and inventiveness. He took great delight in craftsmanship that amused, entertained, and surprised the young at heart, such as his creative motor home, his dinosaurs floating in the meadow, and the stories he wrote about family, friends, and his life. He was a veteran of the Second World War serving in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Upon demobilization he met and married Evelyne (Chisholm) in 1947 and they had 52 loving years together. They had seven children, Heather (Herb), Melodie (Gerry), Clive (Margo), Natalie (Robert), Dale (Lenore), Mark (died at birth), Darlene (Kevin); 22 grandchildren, Krista (Milind), Chad, Daryl (Kendra), Travis, Tara (Craig), Janice, Brendan, Tania (Brad), Trent, Tyson, Tyler, Gavin, Adam, Jaret, Matthew, Kylee, Travis (Pam), Crystal, Haley, Derek, Teagan (died at birth), Logan, and seven great-grandchildren, Dylan, Chaitan, Emma, Aiden, Sharmila, Kayla and Lauren. In 2001, Scott married Hazel (Therrien) (Hayter). They had six wonderful years together and she will miss him greatly. Scott was a devoted and loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend, and will be dearly missed by all. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caring staff of St. Mary's Memorial Hospital. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Kirk Memorial United Church, Aspen, where a celebration of the life of Scott Cameron MacKeen will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Aspen Baptist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in Scott's memory to Melrose Oldsters Club, Kirk Memorial United Church, Aspen Baptist Cemetery, and the Canadian Cancer Society.
