From "West Havre Boucher, Linwood, Frankville: A Journey to the Past" by Evelyn DeCoste, p. 149: "The property of Herman Hendsebee was originally owned by Augustus Levangie, always referred to as "P'tit Usin." Augustus' first marriage was to Angelique Mathe'. From this marriage there were 10 children: Alexander 1848 (m. Mary Jane O'Neil); Celeste Sarah 1850 (m Louis Lavandier); Ludvinie "Devine" (m. Timothe Lavandier; m. Fidele Briand); Jeremiah "Remi" 1854 (m. Marguerite Lavandier); Michel 1856 (m. Marie Sophie Breau); Marie c. 1858 (m. Simon D'Orly); Ursule 1860 (m. Charles De Coste); Angelique "Jane" 1862 (m. Alexander De Coste); Philomene 1865 (not in the 1871 census); Elizabeth 1867 [m. William Alexander Delorey]." "In 1878, after the death of his wife, Augustus married Anne "Nancy" Cote' the widow of Edouard DeCoste. Edouard DeCoste, who drowned on the Kate in 1876 at the age of 34, and Nancy had four children: Elie Henry 1869; Edouard Peter 1871; Anne Brigitte 1874 (m. Joseph Deslauriers of Linwood); Joseph Louis 1876 (born shortly after his father's death. Died at 1 month." "Augustin and Nancy had two children: Elizabeth Jeanne 1880 and David Arthur 1883." "After Augustus' death Nancy continued to live here with her daughter Elizabeth "Lizer." Older people in the community remember that Lizer liked to play the accordeon. At one time one of the neigh- bours had made a pot of fudge and as was the custom, put it outside to harden. However, it was stolen by a passerby, and after Lizer got word of it she composed a song in French "Le pot a fudge!" Nancy died in the late 1930's. One remarkable event that took place at her death was that her body was sent down from Antigonish on the train, and her casket remained at the station until her funeral. There was no wake. Lizer continued to live alone in her old homestead. A bad fall caused her to break a hip and after passing some time in the hospital, she stayed with Paul and Josephine Levangie for a short time before moving in with Amelia Boucher. She died in 1960. After her passing the property was listed with her stepsister Brigitte Deslauriers." I have found Nancy to be a common nickname for Anne among the families I've been researching [please note that there should be an accent over the E in the surname COT É]. Anne COTE b. 15 Oct 1847 [dau of Pierre COTE 1812- d.? & Isabelle CROIX b.? - d.?] m. [1] 25 Jan 1869 Edouard/Edward COSTE/DeCOSTE [son of Elie/Elisha COSTE ca1796-bef 1844 & Felicite LAVANDIER/LEVANGIE ? -1892]. I list one child: Bridget Anne who m. Joseph DESLAURIERS/DELOREY. m. [2] 28 Jan 1878 Augustin LAVANDIER/LAVANGIE b.? [son of Luc/Luke LAVANDIER/LAVANGIE ca1795-1876 & Madeleine COSTE b.? -d.?]. I don't have their children. Augustin was the widower of Angelique MATHE with at least one daughter, Elizabeth, at the time of his marriage to Anne COTE. Confirmation or corrections would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Mrs. Lavangie's strength at so advanced an age- some of her neighbours believe she is closer to the century mark than the conservative 94 years shown in the hospital records- has won the admiration of those who know her. Everybody is sorry to learn of the mishap. Mrs. Lavangie has lived in the same house at Frankville for 80 years. She was twice married, the first husband the late Mr. DeCoste, a widower, with a large family, died some 70 years ago. Three sons and a daughter form this union are living, the sons each being over 75 years old, Her husband's first family was also marked by longevity; about ten years ago eight of his children who were Mrs. Lavangie's stepchildren, were living, all past eighty. Her second husband, Agustus Lavangie, died in 1917 at the age of 101. Since the death of her second husband, Mrs. Lavangie and her daughter, Eliza, have occupied the old home at Frankville. ==== CAN-NS-ANTIGONISH Mailing List ==== Antigonish County GenWeb Site http://www.rootsweb.com/~nsantigo/
