I am seeking information on all Slatterys in Antigonish from 1860-1920. On the census of 1891, the family I am most interested in was spelled Slatery rather than Slatery. My grandmother, MaryAnn Slattery was born in Antigonish July 29,1886. Her parents were John J. Slattery and Elizabeth (Bessie) Chisholm. John J. Slattery died early in 1891. My mother said he died at sea.On the 1891 census on Antigonish "Bessie" Slattery was a widow (age 26)living with another widow, Margaret Slattery (age 30).It looks like some disaster caused these two women to become widows. Any help would be appreciated. Such as - is anyone aware of a disaster in 1891? Did a ship sink? A flood? Fire? What? Bonnie
