Halifax Herald November 11, 2004 SMITH, Trueman A. - 89, Maple Street, Antigonish, died peacefully, November 9, 2004, in St. Martha's Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Born in Antigonish, he was a son of the late John E. and Elizabeth (Williams) Smith. He was a proud veteran of the Second World War, having served overseas 1939-1945, mostly in Holland. He worked at the former Bonners Store, Antigonish Wholesalers and for years with the Department of Transportation as a Weight and Measure inspector on the Canso Causeway. He was an avid hunter and sports fisherman. A proud member of Arras Branch 59, Royal Canadian Legion. Surviving are daughters, Caroline (John) Burke, Toronto; Patricia McKenna, Antigonish; Margie (Harry) Stewart, Quispamsis, N.B.; sons, Trueman (Laurie), Tennessee; Richard (Mary Ann), London, Ont.; loving and proud grandfather of 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; sister, Caroline Fry; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 54 years, Verona "Shang"; son-in-law, Boyd McKenna; brothers, Frank, Elwyn, Lloyd; sister, Annie Hudson. Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in MacIsaac Funeral Home, 61 Pleasant St., Antigonish. Mass of Christian Burial 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Ninian's Cathedral, Rev. Neil McKenna presiding.
