Turns out my maternal great grandfather, one Alexander Pitts, who emigrated to Saugus, Mass., also changed his name when he emigrated. He changed it from Alexandre Petitpas, who it turns out was born in Tracadie, the son of Phillipe Petitpas and Monique Deslauriers (thanks to Eileen for providing this info).
