Halifax Herald May 12, 2004 MacDONALD, Hugh James - 72, Murray Road, Pictou Co., passed away suddenly May 9, 2004, in Ontario. Born in Pleasant Valley, Antigonish Co., he was a son of the late Allan and Christina (Gillis) MacDonald. Hugh was a member of Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, Pictou, where he assisted as a Eucharistic Minister, and an alter server. He was a member of Father Gerald MacKenzie Council 8608, Knights of Columbus, and a fourth degree member of the Monsignor Moses Coady Council, Knights of Columbus. A long-time employee of Scott Maritimes, he retired in 1993. Hugh was also a member of the Wild Blueberry Producer's Association of Nova Scotia, and an associate member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 16, Pictou. Hugh's hobbies included hunting, fishing, and gardening. He enjoyed sports and a good game of cards. Surviving are his wife of 39 years, Marilyn (Harrison); daughters, Tracy MacDonald, Barrie, Ont.; Tammy (Brian) Thompson, Huntsville, Ont.; Holly (Kevin) Bent, Trenton; sons, Trevor (Kirstin), Toronto; Troy (Susan), Scotsburn; grandsons, Jamie, Joey, Gaelen, Brydyn, Kyler, Kieran; granddaughters, Sarah and Skye. He is also survived by sisters, Jean and Mary MacDonald, and Theresa (Gordon) Pushie, all of Antigonish County. He will also be missed by his dog, Shaggy. Hugh was predeceased by a son, Kelly; sisters, Mary Ann MacDonald, Catherine MacDonald, Betty Livingstone, Peggy MacDonald, Christina MacDonald, Rita Connally; brothers, Arthur, Angus, John, Donald and Ambrose. Visitation will be held 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Thursday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Friday in Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, Pictou, with Father Peter MacDonald officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
