Chronicle Herald April 10, 2007 MacINTOSH, Sister Eileen - Formerly Sister Miriam James, 83, a Sister of St. Martha of Antigonish, died at Bethany, the Motherhouse, on Sunday, April 8, 2007, in the 53rd year of her religious life. Born in Harbour Centre, Antigonish Co., Sister Eileen was one of five children of the late James and Mary Jane (FLOYD) MacIntosh. Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Martha on February 15, 1952, pronounced her first vows on February 15, 1954, and her perpetual profession of vows on August 15, 1957. Prior to entering the congregation, Sister Eileen worked as a bank clerk in Antigonish. After her profession of vows, Sister spent most of her life in ministry as an office clerk, bookkeeper and purchasing agent in various institutions operated by the congregation. In Nova Scotia she served at Bethany and St. Martha's Hospital in Antigonish, and St. Joseph's Hospital in Glace Bay. In Alberta she ministered at St. Michael's Hospital (later Broadview Union Hospital) in Broadview and Mineral Springs Hospital in Banff, and in Saskatchewan at St. Peter's Hospital in Melville. In her latter years, Sister Eileen did volunteer service at Martha Centre in Lethbridge, Mineral Springs Hospital in Banff, and at Bethany. Sister served as local leader of the community in one house where she lived. Because of failing health, Sister Eileen moved into Bethany's Extended Care unit in 2003, where she remained until her death. Besides her parents, Sister Eileen was predeceased by sisters, Frances and Isabel, and by brothers, James and Clement. The remains will be resting at Bethany, beginning today at 1:15 p.m., where a Celebration of Vigil will be held on the same evening at 7:30 p.m. Liturgy of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, April 11, at 2 p.m. in Bethany Chapel. www.MacIsaacs.ca
