I am looking for information about the Ohio Kennedys, Garvies, & Carrigans in general and my own ancestors in particular. Are there family histories? My ancestor James Kennedy (prob. born abt 1846) Ohio, Antigonish, married Betsy Garvie Feb 11, 1873, in Antigonish Co.(Nova Scotia Archives Records gave only date & place, no parental info unfortunately). I found a James Kennedy living at home in Ohio with his father, John Kennedy, widower, in 1871 Betsy Garvie was also living at home in Ohio in that census. There is another James Kennedy out there about the same age. I'm not sure just now what record I have on him except a death notice. Also, in his book Rev.Rankin says James Kennedy, son of John, did not marry. In the section on Garvies, he says Betsy G. married James Kennedy, which is true. I'd like to know if the James Kennedy that married Betsy Garvie in 1873 and later lived in St.Mary's & Garden of Eden District of Pictou (1881Census) is, in fact, the son of John Kennedy, widower, of Ohio. I heard from my mother that James Kennedy died before his old age on a hot summer day working near home. The NS Archives does have a death record for a James Kennedy July 26, 1901 which would make my James about 63 yrs. old but the record comes from the Medical Examiner for Halifax and Dartmouth. Wouldn't that be unlikely for someone living in Pictou Co? I'd really like to hear from someone who knows about the Ohio Kennedys. Betsy's mother was Honora Carrigan married to John Garvie who settled in the "Donnybrook" area of Ohio. They were there in the 1871 census. I don't know what year they came from Ireland.
