I agree that the handwritten record looks more like Arthur or Artur, rather than Peter. I found a couple of the children in Mass. vital records - Twins Julia Selena and Lena Melinda Pitts, born Jul 9, 1890 at Dedham, MA to Arthur and Mary V. (Benoit), occup. carpenter, res. Dedham, both born in Nova Scotia. (Lena died in 1891, but the image of the record is not available online). Joseph Walter Pitts, born Nov 10, 1891 at Dedham to Arthur N. and Mary Victoria (Bennett), occup. R.R. employee, both born in Nova Scotia.
