Dr. Carman MacIntosh the local coroner ruled that no inquest was necessary into the cause of death to 49 year old John Pettipas of Lundy, Guysborough County and his 34 year old brother in law Leo MacGillivary of Antigonish. Pettipas was found floating in water close to Monk's Head Tuesday morning by Allister Beaton of South Side Harbour. Late in the afternoon Beaton's neighbor Alexander Chisholm came across the body of MacGillivary about a mile down the coast and ten feet from shore. The two men were hauling lobster traps off Mahoney's Beach on the night of June 8 when they ran into trouble. Observers on shore said they could hear what sounded like shouts of distress in the distance but a heavy sea made their voices almost indistinguishable. Efforts to reach the area in a fishing craft failed. The swamped boat used by the ill fated men was found the following morning about two miles from the point at which they set out. Dragging operations and a concentrated search by navy divers failed to turn up anything. Pettipas' body was found in an area about 50 yards from where the boat was recovered June 9. Pettipas is survived by his wife the former Garnet Avery of Lundy, three sons Leo 16, Wilson 5, and John 18 months and a daughter Dora 14.
