    1. Thanks; Message board posts
    2. Joe Makowiec
    3. - I had initially thought to post to the list an announcement that there was a new listowner, but thought better of it; but Linda beat me to the punch. So - thanks all for the kind wishes, and thank you Linda for your work starting and maintaining the list. I've had the good fortune to meet a few listers in person, and to swap e-mail with others, many of you cousins. Researching in Antigonish County has been a great deal of fun, and I look forward to keeping the list running, hopefully as well as Linda. - Apropos of which, one of the things I had discussed with Linda over a couple of years was whether to gateway the message board to the mailing list. Linda never did get to it, and decided to defer to me. Another list I belong to does it, and I find it a bit annoying. However, I guess it's not too bad once I figured out that the best bet is to reply to posts coming from the message board via the message board. - One downside to using a gatewayed message board is that original messages don't get quoted to the reply. On the board that's OK, because it's relatively easy to find the prior post; on the list it can be difficult to impossible, particularly if you dump your trash regularly. - I bring this up now because of the White/Leblanc message I posted to the list recently, following Linda's practice. This post elicited one reply on the list, but five replies on the board.[1] It looks both interesting and useful if you're researching that name. I bring this up to ask list members' opinion - should we gateway the message boards to the mailing list? Further data: at the moment, there are 25 messages on the board, dating back to 13 May, or about 5 per month. Of those 25, there are 11 threads; 6 original posts didn't get replies. Of about 16 separate posters, I only recognize 2 as list regulars, so we would be broadening both their and your audience. So - what do people think?
