Chronicle Herald August 10, 2007 HUGHES, Marie J. - We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our precious mother and grandmother, Marie Jeanette Hughes of Beaver Bank, Hammonds Plains, and formerly of Fox River, who passed away Wednesday, August 8, 2007, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in Afton, Antigonish Co., she was a daughter of the late Reginald and Laura (Taylor) Dowe. She is survived by daughters, Heather Nickerson (Paul), Beaver Bank; Sheila Wiebe (Jake), Okotoks, Alta.; Donna Schmidt (Barry), Grande Prairie, Alta.; Roseann Myers (Doug), Ottawa; sisters, Eileen Bowden (Glendon), Diligent River; Ethel Varner, Truro; grandchildren, Jillian and Hilary Schmidt, Laura, April and Bailey Myers; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Clayton, in 1998; sisters, Eva, Delores; brothers, Stanley, Lorne, and Basil. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Saturday in Smith's Funeral Home, Parrsboro, where funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Rev. David Arthur officiating. Burial in Port Greville United Cemetery.
