Chronicle Herald June 11, 2007 LAYES, Shirley - 57, Glen Air Estates, Antigonish Co., formerly of South River Road, died on Saturday, June 9, 2007, at home after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Born in New France, Antigonish Co., she was a daughter of Irene (Tate) Bowie, Heatherton, and the late Joseph Bowie. She was a member of St. Ninian's Cathedral parish. She worked most of her life as a waitress in various restaurants in Ontario and Antigonish, and for the past 14 years at Wong's Restaurant in Antigonish. She enjoyed bowling in the mixed leagues and will be fondly remembered for her kind and caring nature. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Bill Layes; daughters: Brenda (Lennie Delorey), Dunmore; Sandra (John) Dort, Dartmouth; grandchildren, Bryden and Leah Delorey, Chelsea Dort; sisters: Theresa (Sandy) Chisholm, Heatherton; Barbara O'Brien, Heatherton. She was predeceased by sister, Mary Grant; brother-in-law, Cecil O'Brien; three grandchildren in infancy. Visitation will be held in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College St., Antigonish, today from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday 10 a.m. in St. Ninian's Cathedral with Rev. Ray Huntley Presiding. Burial in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Merland. Memorial donations may be made to St. Martha's Palliative Care, Canadian Cancer Society or St. Patrick's Cemetery Fund.
