Halifax Herald February 17, 2005 LEVANGIE, Joseph Abraham "Papa Joe" - 82, Frankville, peacefully passed away in St. Martha's Regional Hospital, Antigonish, on February 15, 2005, with his family by his side. Born in Havre Boucher, he was a son of the late Hubert and Rose (DeCoste) Levangie. He enlisted in the RCA in 1940, serving overseas with the RCASC. He returned in 1946. He worked as a cook with B&B Department of the CNR for several years and as a carpenter, until his retirement. He was a life member of Arras Branch No. 59, Royal Canadian Legion, Antigonish, serving on the executive. As well, he was an active member of the Havre Boucher Veterans Association. He was instrumental in the erection of the War Veterans Cenotaph in Havre Boucher. He worked with Father Hector MacDonald at Recovery House in Monastery for three years. He was a member of St. Paul's Parish where he acted as altar server for funerals for several years. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Clara (Bowie) Levangie; children, Anne Porter, Dartmouth; Vera (Fred) Arsenault, Prince Edward Island; Maxim (Isabel) Levangie, Frankville; Monica Currie, Halifax; Leona (Vaughan) Brow, Havre Boucher; Regina (Victor) Sampson, Beaver Bank; John Levangie, Havre Boucher; Judy (Arthur) Boucher, Havre Boucher; Stephen (Elise) Levangie, Pomquet, and Bonnie Levangie, Frankville; 17 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Frazier, Taunton, Mass., U.S.A. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Joan (William) Fougere; brother, George Levangie; great-grandson, Braedon Wood. Visitation will be in St. Paul's Centre, Havre Boucher, today from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. and Friday, February 18, from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held on Saturday, February 19, at 10 a.m. in St. Paul's Church, Havre Boucher with Rev. Robert McNeil officiating. Interment will take place at a later date. No flowers by request. Donations may be made to Havre Boucher Veterans Association.
