Halifax Herald February 23, 2005 MacKAY, Velma Florence Christine - Died in Haverhill, Mass., on January 20, 2005, at the age of 93. She was a daughter of the late Lilla Torrey and Alexander MacKay (Guysborough Intervale). Velma was born in Haverhill, Mass., on September 8, 1911, but obtained her education while living in the Intervale. Returning to Haverhill, she trained for 15 months at the Addison Gilbert Hospital, Gloucester, then worked at the Bradford Junior College, Haverhill, until retirement. Velma was the great-granddaughter of Donald Cameron, who immigrated from the Highlands of Scotland in the early 1800's and settled at Pitcher's Farm, Antigonish Co. She was very interested in her Scottish ancestry and spent many hours researching her roots. She was predeceased by her parents and half-sister. Velma is survived by her sister, Jennie "Jean" Grady, along with several nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. Sunset and evening star, And one clear call for me!
