I have a John McMillan, born in Scotland abt 1815, who traveled with (I believe) his brother from Antigonish Nova Scotia to Beaver Dam, Wisconsin in 1849. The Wisconsin land records show John and Duncan buying adjoining property, on consecuatively numbered deeds on the same day. One year later they were joined by Hugh McMillan (rel?), who bought another adjoining plot. About 20 years later, John and wife Christiann (nee: Gunn)who he married in Nova Scotia, sold their property (presumably to the brothers?) and moved to Geneva, Iowa. The 1880, 90 census reports show them in Geneva with sons Duncan John and Daniel. I don't know what became of Daniel.Duncan John was my g.grandfather. I have always been curious about the Beaver Dam McMillans. When I get tired of hitting brick walls going backwards, I go sideways and try to trace the McMillans who stayed in Wisconsin.
