MacDonald Nursing Home, Antigonish, formerly of James River, died Saturday, January 21, 1989 in the nursing home. Born in Monastery, he was a son of the late Charles and Mary (Dhooge) Breen. He was a retired employee of the Department of Transportation. He was a veteran of the Second World War. He served in Canada, the United Kingston and continental Europe. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Brandch 59, Antigonish. He is survived by five sons, Richard, Beaver Meadow, Antigonish Co.; Kevin, Edmonton; Laurie, St. Joseph's, Antigonish Co.; Glenn, Truro; Pierre, James River; five daughters, Effie (Mrs. Henry Joosten), Ohio, Antigonish Co.; Ruby (Mrs. Kevin MacGillivray), Antigonish; Lorraine (Mrs. Tilly Walsh), Antigonish; Loretta (Mrs. Allison Long) Grant's Lake; Genie (Mrs. Robert Stevens), Wolfville; five sisters Loretta (Mrs. Vernon Crittendon), Mulgrave; Florence (Mrs. George Poirier), Shediac, NB; Mary (Mrs. Edward MacDonald), Merland; Bernadette (Mrs. Ronald Clark), Truro; Viola (Mrs. Eugene DeCoste) Quincy, Mass.; two brothers, Peter, Merland; Mike Antigonish; 25 grandchildren. He was predeceased by five brothers, Frederick, Frank, Joseph, Michael, Charles; three sisters, Maria Halloran, Agnes Coady, Edith in infancy. The body rested in MacIassc Funeral Home, Antigonish. Funeral was held Tuesday, January 24, 1989, St. Joseph's Church, St. Joseph's Rev. Hector MacDonald officiating. Burial in parish cemetery at a later date.
