Hi Ray, Where can I find obits dating back to the 1930 and before for people living in Grosvenor? I have been trying to find records and I am not contacting the correct places as Grosvenor I don't know which County Grosvenor is in. I am looking for O'Neil's and Tate's. Thank you for all the work you do helping people. Barbara, I'm not sure if you meant to address Ray or me, but hopefully I can help answer your query. Grosvenor is in Guysborough County (right near the Antigonish County border) From Place Names and Places : This settlement is located about a mile north west of Summers Lake, west of the strait of Canso, in eastern Nova Scotia. It was perhaps named after Robert Grosvenor, a lord of the Admiralty or Field Marshal Thomas Grosvenor. Lots of land were granted to: Robert and Thomas Kenny and John Tote in 1828; Peter and James Somers, Thomas Smith and Michael Flinn in 1829 and Daniel McKeough and John Wheaton in 1831. Some of these people probably settled soon after the grants were made. A postal way office was established July 1, 1871, with Samuel O'Neil as postmaster. Farming and lumbering are the basic industries. Two newspapers for Guysborough County are the Canso Breeze and the Guysborough County Advocate. A look at the Guysborough GenWeb site shows some transcriptions from The Canso Breeze 1922 - 1931. A search may turn up the names you are interested in. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~guys/cansobreeze.html Here is the link for the main page. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/%7Eguys/index.html Good luck with your search! I believe that Grosvenor was annexed to Antigonish County in the 1980's.
