    1. [Antigonish] Mary McDonald - Stellarton / Brown's Mtn Antigonish / Nova Scotia
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: pepsilvr100 Surnames: McDonald Chapman Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.canada.novascotia.antigonish/562/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello Listers, I am hoping that you might be able to help me in tracing my grandmother and her family. My grandmother's name was Mary Bell McDonald. She married James Robert Chapman January 28 1902 in the County of Pictou. Mary Bell(e) listed her age as 19 at the time of marriage, and therefore would expect her date of birth to be about 1893 give or take a year . She also listed her residence at the time of marriage as Stellarton. Mary Bell also listed her parents as Daniel and Annie McDonald. Her birth place was listed as Brown's Mtn which I believe is west of the town of Antigonish near the border with Pictou county just north of Marshy Hope. The witnesses for the wedding were listed as Annie B Rogers and Margaret Macdonald and the service was performed by Rev A Rogers. Would you have any knowledge of this Mary Bell McDonald of Stellarton/Brown's Mtn? Also might you have any knowledge of the other members of this McDonald family? Any information or leads you might be able to provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Chronicle Herald March 20, 2007 MacPHERSON, Jean C. - Jean Chisholm MacPherson, Q.C., died peacefully at home in St. Andrews, Antigonish Co., surrounded by her family on March 17, 2007, at the age of 93 years. She was the wife of the late Judge Hugh J. MacPherson. Born in Antigonish, she was the daughter of John Frederick and Mary Elizabeth (MacGillivray) Chisholm. Jean attended Mount St. Bernard and received her Bachelor of Science degree from St. Francis Xavier University in 1937. She then studied nursing at St. Martha's School of Nursing, Antigonish, before moving to Montreal where she worked as a nursing instructor at St. Mary's Hospital. Jean went on to join the navy and served in Nova Scotia during the Second World War. One evening in 1946, she asked air force veteran Hugh J. MacPherson to play his piano rendition of "I've Been Working on the Railroad". This encounter was the beginning of a beautiful friendship, marriage and partnership that would span almost 60 years. They entered the study of law at Dalhousie University graduating in 1950 and becoming the first married couple to graduate from law school in the Dominion of Canada. This marked the beginning of a distinguished career. They were admitted to the Bar of Nova Scotia and established the law practice MacPherson and MacPherson in Antigonish, now MacPherson, MacNeil, Macdonald. Jean worked in that practice until her retirement at the age of 87. During her career she had the great honour of acting as Municipal Solicitor for Antigonish County and the District of St. Mary's. She also worked as Chairperson of the Antigonish Municipal School Board. She received her Q.C. in 1968. In 1979, she was invited to accept appointment as Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia. This was an honour that she declined. Jean was a past president and an active member of the Catholic Women's League for more than 50 years. In addition to her successful career, Jean was also a much loved mother and grandmother. She is survived by her daughters, Garry (Clarence) Fidler and Ellen MacIntyre, and her brother, Rod C. Chisholm (Peggy). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Hugh Fidler, Keenan Fidler, Andrew Fidler and Ciorsti MacIntyre, and her sisters-in-law, Isobel Chisholm, Christena Chisholm, Mary Chisholm, Kathleen MacDougall and Bernadette MacPherson, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Judge Hugh J. MacPherson (2005), and by her brothers, Frederick and Bernard. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to MacIsaac Funeral Home, Pleasant Street, Antigonish. Visitation will be held today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday, March 21, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with Mass of Christian Burial and celebration of her life on Wednesday, March 21, at 2 p.m. in St. Andrews Catholic Church. 3. Hi, Listers, I'm making a correction from my email shown below. I now remember, belatedly, that my dad, Dr. Judson Stewart MacGregor of Boston & Milton, Mass. below, born 12 August 1883 in New Glasgow, Pictou Co., NS to Rev. Peter Stewart MacGregor born ca. 1853 South River Lake, Antigonish Co., NS. & to Bessie Hatfield (Elizabeth Maria Hatfield) born 1859 Tusket, Yarmouth Co., NS, (that my dad) had a first cousin named Cassie or Catherine MacMillan of Boston, Mass. The latter (born probably in Antigonish Co.) nee MacMillan, never married, was his MacGregor 1st cousin, but she was born a MacMillan, not a MacGregor. Nevertheless, I still think the below Mrs. Cassie J.
