    3. Hi everyone, I have accumulated a lot of books over the years. Many of them I am through with and do not need to keep anymore so I am putting them up for sale. I am offering the books to the Antigonish List first - before pursuing other avenues. Most of the books are related to Antigonish or other counties in Nova Scotia, or the Maritimes in general. You can see the listing here: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nsantigo/booksavailable.html Best, Linda

    3. Check in Rankin's book "History of the County of Antigonish" and also on the web for information about the Loddy MacDonalds. Loddy is a nickname for descendents of Ludovick MacDonald, and Lewis is the usual English equivalent of the name Loddy (or Ludovick). This forename is not common among the gaelic-speaking people, so when Lewis does show up, it usually means the person is a descendent of the Loddys. Check out the links below for more information. http://www.clandonald.org.uk/cdm08/cdm08a19.htm http://www.road-to-the-isles.org.uk/westword/march2002.html http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi? op=GET&db=windwalker32&id=I20154 http://www.oulton.org/cwa/newsns.nsf/a6040306c38ac84d85256588001c248a/ 0ba18380928b9f9c85256c2a0005faa6!OpenDocument Do check all the sources, as there may be errors in the above files. I also found a marriage record for widower Lewis MacDonald & widow Margaret Smith 1876. This all fits well as the youngest child shown on the 1881 census IS my great-grandmother, Flora, who married Alex Gillis. Also shows Flora's sister, Margaret, who married Stephen MacKenzie. I found their death information and both records show the parents as Lewis MacDonald & Anna Boyd. The Hist of Antigonish County, page 81, indicates that Ann Boyd married Lewis MacDonald. Unfortunately, Rankin did not say which MacDonald family Lewis belonged to. Also, I find Rankin's information on the various generations of Boyds more than a little confusing. Was Ann the daughter of Alex Boyd? Does anyone know which MacDonalds Lewis belonged to? I DO know that there is a connection to the "blue" MacDonalds - Angus Blue MacD, councillor in Glace Bay - but that doesn;t necessarily mean that the connection is thru these MacD's. 3. Hi Everyone, Would anyone know much about the town of Vanceboro Maine? I have a copy of a ticket that my grandmother had to travel to the USA from Pictou Co. Canada. The ticket says Manifest class - E port of Vanceboro ME. I also have a paper with of a list or manifest of Alien passengers applying for admission to the states. From what I can find out Vanceboro is on land so it must have been by train. I guess it is confussing because of the words port of Vanceboro make it sound the ticket was for a ship or is this just a paper that she had to apply for to allow her to enter the USA. Any comment would be appreciated. Thanks Harriet

    3. Would anyone have anything on Alexander b: Nov 1837 Nova Scotia and died06 Apr 1914 New Glasgow, a death notice or how many children he had? He was married to Mary M. MacGillivray which I know nothing else about, trying to piece my Fraser line together one family at a time. Know they had a daughter Elizabeth (Bessie) b: 1860 give or take a year. She married in Boston MA to George L. Revaleon born Boston, they had no children or any that I could find. Alexander David is the son of David Fraser and Elizabeth Fraser (needless to say Elizabeth could not have died as early as Clan Fraser stated since some of her children were born after her death date. I have an Abraham, but no birth or death information, other than his father is Augustus, son of Francois. In fact, is it possible that the dates you gave for William Abraham (1834-1922) were for his father, Abraham? Abraham's wife, Virgnia Benoit also makes sense as three of Francois's sons married Benoit women, all from the same fammily, so the families were obviously close. I know there are Rogers farmers in the Marin county area, but I've assumed that they were of Scotch or English ancestory. Maybe you can tell me how you know William's father and mother. By the way the name Freeman (anglized version of the French Fermin) reoccurs in the Rogers family I know. I think we have a little work ahead of us to figure this out for sure. Author: mrmkirsch Surnames: Rogers Benoit Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.canada.novascotia.antigonish/567/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am looking for ancestry information on William Abraham Rogers (1834-1922) of Pomquet. William was born to Abraham Rogers and Virginia Benoit. He immigrated to the United States (New York) where he married Therese (or Theresa or Thirza) Collins and had four children: William Augustus, Ida, Freeman H, and Edwin F. All of William's children relocated to the San Francisco, California area. William Abraham and Therese disappear from the census records after the children left home. William Abraham reappears as a widower living with his son, William Augustus, in California prior to his death. In one of the New York censuses, William Abraham is listed as having two nephews living with him, both with the Rogers surname. From this fact and stories of a 3rd generation William's visit to Nova Scotia where he supposedly met a relative, I believe that William Abraham had at least one brother. I would appreciate hearing from anyone in the Pomquet area who has an information about this family. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
