    1. [Antigonish] Canadian Border Crossing records at Ancestry
    2. Joe Makowiec
    3. Ancestry now has "Border Crossings: From Canada to U.S., 1895-1956" available. It's linked from their main page, or you can reach it directly at: http://content.ancestry.com/iexec/?htx=List&dbid=1075&offerid=0%3a7858%3a0 or shortened if that breaks: http://preview.tinyurl.com/2wsgbj An excerpt of their description: "This database contains an index of aliens and citizens crossing into the U.S. from Canada via various ports of entry along the U.S.-Canadian border between 1895 and 1956." It looks like it's land or river crossings, and doesn't include seaports, and runs from Saint John, NB to Montana. Joe -- Joe Makowiec can be reached at: http://makowiec.org/contact/?Joe http://makowiec.org/

He married Flora MacDonald (daughter of Anna Boyd & Lewis MacDonald of Antigonish)& their first child, Mary, was born in Stellarton (Albion Mines) in 1896. Their 3rd child was named Martha - my grandmother, named for her Aunt Martha Gillis. My mother, Emily, was named for an aunt whose version of that name was Emma. It was always "said" that Alex's mother was Irish and all the references I can find in the Census info and the various on-line BMD records all indicate that Mary Gillis (above) was Mary McHeffey (possibly McKeffey or other variation in spelling)born in Ireland. The birth record for one of their children, information supplied by the father, Simon, states that Simon & Mary were married in Sydney in 1958 - have not seen any confirmation of that as yet. So, can anyone burst my bubble? I'll post this to Pictou & Antigonish sites as well. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. "Peggy" - 84, 53 Fatima St., Antigonish, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family, April 29, 2007, in St. Martha's Hospital, Antigonish. Born August 22, 1922, in Lennox, Antigonish Co., Peggy was a daughter of the late Daniel R. and Mary Harriet (MacDougall) MacGillivray. A mother to nine children, Peggy was a full-time homemaker, a vocation at which she had no equal. She and Rod retired to Antigonish in 1983. Always active in the community, Peggy enjoyed bowling, curling, dancing and especially cards. She enjoyed nothing better than a game of 45s at the Arisaig Hall. Peggy treasured her summers at the cottage in Doctor's Brook, Antigonish, Co., with her sisters nearby and children and grandchildren dropping by. Surviving are her husband of almost 56 years, Rod, and daughters, Linda (late John) Ross, Arisaig; Bonnie (Jim) Picard, Cloverville; Marian (David) Smith, Oakville, Ont.; Margie, Bedford; Cathy (Randy Crawley), Sydney; Donna (David) MacNeil, Upper Tantallon; Mary (Bernie) Matlock, Tantallon; Nancy (Bruce) MacDonald, Timberlea; son, Rod, Port Hawkesbury; brother, Aubrey, Chino, Calif.; sisters, Catherine (late Howard) MacDougall, Halifax; Theresa (John B.) Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Mary Jane; brothers, Lawrence, Alexander, Donald, John, George, Raymond and three siblings in infancy. 3. Mary, Thanks for this. As I said I didn't want to be the victim of wishful thinking. If this is the family of Arthur and Mary then they moved back and forth between Massachusetts and Tracadie quite a bit. Thanks you, again.
