Chronicle Herald July 30, 2007 MacASKILL, Ronald Thomas - 64, Frankville, passed away peacefully in St. Martha's Regional Hospital, Antigonish, on Friday, July 27, 2007, with his family by his side. Ronnie was a beloved husband, father and grandfather who put all others before himself. He loved his wife and two daughters (his girls) deeply and would do anything in the world for them. He enjoyed and loved his grandchildren, Madison and Taylor and was awaiting the arrival of his third grandchild. Madison and Taylor lovingly referred to him as Da. Wherever dad would go his faithful dog Diego would follow. And for all those who knew our dad, you know he enjoyed his country music and played his stereo every day. Dad had a passion for music. Dad would do anything for anyone who needed it, that's how he was. "Us girls" will surely miss him and the thud of his stereo. His grandchildren will miss his "treats" and his hugs. His dog, his best friend, will miss him everyday. Ronnie was a coal miner's son, born in New Waterford on January 15, 1943, to John and Elizabeth (Gardiner) MacAskill and had 20 brothers and sisters. He grew up in Havre Boucher, raised by wonderful foster parents Peter and Mammie DeCoste and their wonderful family. Ronnie is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Kathleen (Cole); daughters, Gina (Bobby) DeCoste, Lower South River; Karen (Jordan) Blackwell, Halifax; grandchildren, Madison and Taylor; brothers and sisters, Tina (Joseph), Alex, Dolena, Chuck (Eloise), Helen (Marcel) LaSalle, Eddie (Debbie), Jean, Shirley, and Donald; as well as many nieces and nephews. We all love you and will miss you tremendously. He was predeceased by daughter, Rhonda in infancy; sisters, Kaye Drake and Mary Cadman, and brother, John Jr. Visitation will be held today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in St. Paul's Centre, Havre Boucher. Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in St. Andrew's Anglican Church, Mulgrave, Rev. Susan Best officiating. Burial in St. Andrew's Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Lupus Society of Nova Scotia or Kidney Foundation of Canada, Nova Scotia Branch. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at: www.haverstocks.com

Also, am I missing any of the children of Matthew and Mary? Do you know where Matthew died? I don't see his death record in the NS vitals. I can't say for sure that the Matthew I have suggested is your Matthew but the ages are about correct and if this is the death record for Mary MacVarish she was from Inverness County as well. Mary Ann All I have found about Elizabeth Mahoney is that she married William O'Neil, an immigrant from Wexford. She was from Antigonish or Antigonish Harbour and her family was one of the early settlers or was a prominent family. The family moved to Grosvenor, Guysborough Co when their son, James Patrick was very young - he was born ±1842. I think William had siblings, but I don't know for sure and have no idea of what the birth order was. James Patrick had children: William - was in Massachusetts but moved back to Grosvenor. Edward Samuel - in Massachusetts - married and died there James - was in Gloucester, Massachusetts - died rather young and left one son James and his wife Mary - lived in Massachusetts twins - Elizabeth and Annie I don't know the birth order of them. James Patrick had sibblings, I think James Patrick had siblings James and Samuel but I am not at all sure of that.
