- I had initially thought to post to the list an announcement that there was a new listowner, but thought better of it; but Linda beat me to the punch. So - thanks all for the kind wishes, and thank you Linda for your work starting and maintaining the list. I've had the good fortune to meet a few listers in person, and to swap e-mail with others, many of you cousins. Researching in Antigonish County has been a great deal of fun, and I look forward to keeping the list running, hopefully as well as Linda. - Apropos of which, one of the things I had discussed with Linda over a couple of years was whether to gateway the message board to the mailing list. Linda never did get to it, and decided to defer to me. Another list I belong to does it, and I find it a bit annoying. However, I guess it's not too bad once I figured out that the best bet is to reply to posts coming from the message board via the message board. - One downside to using a gatewayed message board is that original messages don't get quoted to the reply. On the board that's OK, because it's relatively easy to find the prior post; on the list it can be difficult to impossible, particularly if you dump your trash regularly. - I bring this up now because of the White/Leblanc message I posted to the list recently, following Linda's practice. This post elicited one reply on the list, but five replies on the board.[1] It looks both interesting and useful if you're researching that name. I bring this up to ask list members' opinion - should we gateway the message boards to the mailing list? Further data: at the moment, there are 25 messages on the board, dating back to 13 May, or about 5 per month. Of those 25, there are 11 threads; 6 original posts didn't get replies. Of about 16 separate posters, I only recognize 2 as list regulars, so we would be broadening both their and your audience. So - what do people think? Even better - go to the link to the message board and post a reply there! Thanks! -listadmin] http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/QOC.2ACE/137 My grandmother, Elizabeth Ann (White) Gaffney, was, according to her death certificate, born in Harve Bouche in 1881, She emigrated to Massachusetts, with perhaps a brother John, in 1896. Her death certificate indicates that her parents were Felix and Sophia White. We have some reason to believe, however, that her original family name was Leblanc. The 1901 Canada lists a Felix and Sophy Leblanc living in Linwood with their two children, Peter and Lena, at home. The birthdates of Elizabeth and John fall in precise sequence with those of Peter and Lena, with Elizabeth and John the oldest. Any help or guidance would be appreciated. And thanks!

Hi List, It is my hope that I will be able to complete the digital images and text for St. Joseph's Cemetery, St. Joseph's, Antigonish County by the end of November (this year!). If anyone wishes to put the CD on their Christmas Wish List, you can contact the Antigonish Heritage Museum and Jocelyn will begin a list. The cost for the CD will be $10 plus cost of postage. All profits go to acquiring new microfilm for the Museum. Hi Sue, Based on your e-mail address, I'm guessing you live in New York City or thereabouts. I checked OCLC, and that book is available in NY City at: New York Historical Society Archives; New York Public Library Research Library; Columbia University Library Since the book was published in 1934, it may be considered rare and probably wouldn't be ILL'd, but you could try anyway. Also, the LDS Family History Library in Salt Lake City has a copy, and you could go to your local LDS branch library and request that they microfilm the book. You could then rent the microfilm through that branch library for a few bucks. The author was born in 1857 and it's never been republished as far as I can tell, so there shouldn't be any copyright problems. Hope this helps a bit. Looking for any info on John W. CHISHOLM and Mary "Minnie" CHISHOLM. He was born in 1866 in Glassburn, N.S. and died in 1915. He was married to Mary "Minnie" CHISHOLM, who was born in 1871 and died in 1972. They are buried in Heatherton Cemetery along with their son Colin, who died in 1973. They had 9 children: Cassie, Florence, Margaret, John Alexander, Jennie, Mary, Anna, Colin, and Bernard. I believe Mary died in infancy. Colin lived in the home of Alex Chisholm, the first Chisholm to come to N.S. Sue

Hi List, Thankfully, we have reached the dying days of a very busy season. While the tree colours are still in full array and the Celtic Music continues until the 16th, traffic it slowly declining. It will soon be time to get back into genealogy. It was my pleasure to meet Joe in person this summer and I wish to extend a warm welcome to him as the new list master. Hi... The database Terry so generously provided makes many references to "The MacLeans of Duart in Scotland". Is this a book? A document of some type? I am very interested because my grandmother on my father's side is a MacLean and I've traced her family all the way back to the Duart Castle in Mull. I'm very curious as to why my maternal grandfather is listed in this document...are the Chisholms related to the MacLeans? Thanks in advance for any info you can provide! Sue
